Job Description




As a Security Officer - Part-Time Gate Monitor in Columbia, SC, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Logistics & Distribution, and more. As an Allied Universal Access Control Officer at a busy logistics and distribution location, you will manage entry and exit points, verify credentials, and monitor alarms and cameras to help identify unusual activity. You will log visitor and vehicle traffic using a computer and/or tablet, coordinate with site teams, and deliver professional customer service while maintaining clear communication and integrity in every interaction.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to clients and site personnel by following Allied Universal security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities at a logistics and distribution location.
  • Control access at employee and visitor entry points and/or vehicle gates by verifying identification, issuing temporary credentials as directed, maintaining visitor and contractor logs, and directing traffic flow for deliveries and pickups.
  • Screen incoming and outgoing vehicles, trailers, and packages as required by post orders, including checking shipping documents and coordinating with site contacts regarding dock assignments and restricted areas.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including reporting hazards, policy concerns, and suspicious activity through required channels.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols of buildings, yards, dock areas, and perimeter points to help to deter unauthorized access and/or policy violations, and complete patrol and incident reports as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Have 2+ years of security experience.
  • Be at least 21+ years of age.
  • Be comfortable using a computer or tablet preferred.
  • Have alarm panel experience preferred.
  • Have customer service experience preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
