What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly process-oriented, experienced, and self-driven Capacity Planner to support finished vehicle logistics. The capacity planning team is responsible for bringing sufficient trucking coverage daily at two North American factories to ensure smooth and consistent outflow of the volume from the factory. Given that Tesla's factories operate on a 24/7 schedule, maintaining consistent and reliable trucking availability is essential to support the uninterrupted outflow of production volumes.In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to meet daily coverage requirements across both factories. Additionally, you will develop simulation models to evaluate potential scenarios, assess associated risks, and implement targeted process enhancements to optimize logistics performance. This position demands a proactive individual with a strong analytical mindset, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment where precision and foresight directly impact Tesla's operational excellence and customer delivery commitments.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate and forecast daily trucking capacity requirements for finished vehicle logistics at two North American factories, ensuring alignment with production schedules and volume targets
- Engage with internal teams and external partners to secure reliable coverage and resolve any capacity gaps in real time
- Monitor factory operations to anticipate and mitigate disruptions, proactively adjusting plans to maintain consistent vehicle outflow
- Manage and assess carrier's performance, reporting operational metrics (KPIs) to senior management and fulfilling any regulatory reporting requirements related to transportation and logistics activities
- Identify opportunities to reduce cost and communicate with Global Sourcing team for any changes in the coverage needs
- Collaborate with business intelligence team and product development team to drive improvements in the TMS
- Retrieve data from internal database, analyze it and publish dashboards for Tesla's Logistics leadership
- Identify and define process improvement opportunities to enhance overall logistics efficiency
- Design, develop, and implement discrete event simulation (DES) models using industry-standard software to simulate real-world processes and predict outcomes
- Develop and maintain advanced simulation models to analyze logistics scenarios, quantify risks (e.g., delays, bottlenecks, or resource constraints), and recommend data-driven adjustments to processes for enhanced efficiency and reliability
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Supply Chain or the equivalent of experience and/or evidence of exceptional ability
- Professional experience in capacity planning, logistics coordination, or supply chain operations, ideally within a high-volume manufacturing or automotive environment
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; Proficiency in data analysis tools e.g., Excel, SQL, and Python for forecasting, modeling, and reporting
- Hands-on experience in discrete event simulation and familiarity with tools such as FlexSim, Anylogic, etc.
- Ability to write, speak, and present effectively and persuasively at all levels
- Demonstrated communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic, results-driven culture, with flexibility for occasional off-hours support to align with logistics operations
- Ability to travel domestically to visit other Tesla locations
