Our experience includes a range of technical expertise to service your facilities, such as permit issuance, building plan review, building inspection, grading and accessibility plan review and inspection, flood zone experience, fire-life safety plan review, building official services, code enforcement, emergency safety assessment, and disaster recovery.

Public Agency Resources (PARS), a subsidiary of Willdan Group Inc., is seeking a full-time Code Enforcement Official in the Steuben County, NY area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The New York State Code Enforcement Officialadministers and enforces the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and local zoning ordinances, ensuring safety through site inspections, building plan reviews, and violation enforcement. Key duties include issuing permits, certificates of occupancy, and violation notices, while conducting inspections for code compliance in new construction and existing structures.

  • Conducting site inspections.
  • Issuing permits and certificates of occupancy.
  • Investigating complaints.
  • Enforcing compliance through notices of violation.
  • Issuing building permits.
  • Monitoring construction of permitted projects.
  • Addressing code violations.
  • Record keeping.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Codeand local zoning laws required.
  • Ability to read/interpret construction plans and technical documents, and communicate effectively with the public.
  • Proficient in using computer applications for record-keeping and permit tracking.
  • Ability to exercise firmness, tact, and impartiality in enforcing regulations.
  • Must possess NYS Department of State Code Enforcement Official certification.
  • Experience in building construction, inspection, or a related field (e.g., architecture, engineering).
  • Knowledge of building materials, fire safety standards, and construction methods.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver's license.
  • Identification of New York State approved in-service Code training courses.
