Job Summary: As part of National Finance, the Tax Accountant is a member of an expanding team focused on providing corporate tax compliance that complies with applicable federal, state and local tax laws for BDO USA. The individual is responsible for obtaining and reconciling data to prepare personal property tax, sales & use tax, business licenses, annual reports, state and local income tax returns, state apportionment and other various related filings for BDO USA to comply with applicable federal, state and local tax laws. Communicates internally with other BDO USA internal departments and externally with venders and government agents on issues of tax compliance and processes. This position is a part of the firm's corporate tax department without the pressure to build a book of business. Job Duties:
- Prepares state and local sales & use tax returns, by gathering and reconciling supporting data and documentation, along with executing the associated payment methods and state data input, as state websites or upload
- Assists in the gathering and determination of BDO USA's use tax liabilities
- Obtains and reconciles data to prepare personal property tax returns and associated processing of personal property tax payments
- Obtains appropriate data and prepares annual reports, business licenses, government surveys, and miscellaneous tax returns along with payment requests and timely mailing of returns
- Assists with the daily task of reviewing customer exemption certificates for approval and vendor exemption certificate requests and enters into Vertex sales tax engine, as needed
- Assists in gathering information for the company's quarterly tax projections for federal, state and local income taxes
- Coordinates the execution of any estimated or extension payments, along with the completion of any corresponding forms
- Assists in the gathering and preparation of the company's state apportionment information
- Prepares state and local income tax return, by gathering supporting data and documentation as needed
- Supports the process of determining the amount for federal & state tax depreciation by updating the tax departments fixed asset software
- Performs tax research and communicates findings to the appropriate individuals, as needed
- Gathers required information, and drafts communications to respond to notices from various tax authorities
- Assists in obtaining date for sales & use and personal property tax audits
- Reconciles various tax accounts within the general ledger and coordinates the associated JEs within the month end close process
- Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Education:
- Bachelor's degree, required; focus on Accounting, Taxation, or Finance, preferred
- Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred
Experience:
- One (1) or more years of experience in public accounting tax team or a corporate tax department, required
- Experience preparing Sales & Use tax returns, preferred
- Experience preparing Personal Property tax returns, preferred
License(s)/Certification(s):
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA), preferred
Software:
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Excel and Word, required
- Prior experience using Sales & Use and Property Tax software, preferred
- Prior experience utilizing Oracle or OneStream financial tools, preferred

- Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of BDO USA's activities as they relate to associated taxes positions

- Strong knowledge of state and local sales & use tax, as well as personal property taxes

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. National Range: $55,000 - $70,000
Maryland Range: $55,000 - $70,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $55,000 - $70,000
