As an Automation Specialist in Hammond, you will support the full lifecycle of manufacturing equipment - from design, development, manufacturing, and commissioning through production support and continuous improvement. Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Perform root cause analysis on production equipment and implement solutions to improve reliability and robustness
  • Proactive, collaborative (local and global), and continuous improvement mindset
  • Troubleshoot and support production equipment designed or procured by MEG
  • Design and implement controls solutions for new or existing equipment and test fixtures
  • Design and implement mechanical upgrades to existing equipment
  • Support equipment commissioning: run-offs, Factory Acceptance Testing at vendor sites, and Site Acceptance Testing at our facility
  • Participate in equipment transition approvals and design reviews from MEG ownership to production
    • Develop and maintain training and escalation support: production, maintenance, lead/specialists
  • Develop and maintain test equipment for new product evaluation, including data collection and reporting
  • Develop and deliver robotic training programs for production and maintenance personnel
    • Enhance and maintain the Robotic Training Facility in Hammond
  • Provide on-call support during equipment introduction and as required by production
  • Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and safe work practices

Requirements:

  • Trade School certificate or Associate's degree in a technical field
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting PLC programs
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability
  • Experience with electrical wiring and industrial controls troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and edit electrical and pneumatic schematics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electromechanical systems including PLCs, relay logic, pneumatics, and linear actuators
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Willingness to work overtime and participate in on-call production support

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Industrial Technology, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical or similar)
  • Experience with industrial PLC, robot programming, and troubleshooting (Allen Bradley)
  • Experience with SCADA and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools
  • Experience operating machine tools (drill press, band saw, bench grinder)
  • Experience with pneumatic or hydraulic plumbing and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite - spreadsheet and word-processing software
