Assistant Professor in Department of Global & Sociocultural Studies

The Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies within the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, at Florida International University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Anthropology or Sociology, beginning August 2026. We seek a scholar whose primary specialization lies in the study of migration and refugees, with research that engages critically with issues of poverty, social stratification, and/or transnational and global processes.

A regional or country specialization in Latin America and the Caribbean is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department's curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, maintain an active research agenda, and participate in service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the potential for continued excellence in research and teaching. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or Sociology by the time of appointment.

In 2021, the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (The Green School), the college housing the Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies, received full membership in the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). This organization includes the top 41 schools of international affairs in the world. The Green School is among only 26 in the U.S. with this designation, 5th in the Southeastern United States, and the only one in the State of Florida.
