HJF is seeking a Scientist II to support the Center for Advanced Research for Military Optimization, Readiness, and Rehabilitation (ARMORR) within the Uniformed Services University Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine in Bethesda, MD.

Due to site security requirements this position can only consider US Citizens.

The Scientist II provides strategic leadership and technical oversight across a diverse portfolio of single- and multi-site clinical research protocols, guiding research teams through various stages of the research process. Through cross-team collaboration, the Scientist II ensures all projects remain aligned with established timelines and milestones.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Plans, executes, and oversees clinical research operations.
  • Strategizes, identifies, and organizes personnel support for current and future studies.
  • Collaborates across teams to translate scientific goals into operational tasks.
  • Identifies knowledge gaps. Leads the development of essential study material and standard operating procedures to ensure documentation fulfills professional/industry standards.
  • Contributes to new grant and funding applications. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Monitors scientific literature. Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
  • Collaborates with other technical and professional staff.
  • Provides direct training and supervision to clinical research staff.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervisor: Conducts employee hiring, disciplinary actions, employee performance evaluations. Will supervise a team of research staff at WRNMMC.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work with and supervise others.
  • Familiar with project management concepts.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience conducting clinical research.
  • Education in rehabilitation sciences, exercise sciences, or related discipline.
  • Experience with personnel management.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an T3/Secret Security Clerance.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: May require lifting materials up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment

  • This position will be hybrid, with an onsite requirement of at least 3 days a week in a hospital setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $93,100 - $125,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
