Job Description

The Global Risk Management & Compliance Senior Manager is responsible for managing risk management and compliance activities across an international NGO implementing U.S. Government-funded programs. The role supports organizational leadership by strengthening compliance with donor requirements, applicable laws and regulations, organizational policies and ethical standards, identifying and mitigating risk, and promoting consistent governance practices across countries and functions.

The position operates in a globally distributed environment and works closely leadership and all functions in the organization to foster a culture of compliance and risk awareness.

Key Responsibilities



  • Lead enterprise risk management for global operations, overseeing identification, assessment, and mitigation of organizational risk across regions and operating environments.
  • Provide compliance oversight, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies; monitor regulatory developments and assess impacts on international operations.
  • Oversee policy and procedure governance, monitoring cross-functional implementation and consistency across globally distributed teams.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for risk and compliance incidents, supporting investigations, coordinating corrective actions, and responding to time-sensitive issues as needed, including outside standard business hours.
  • Conduct internal audits, compliance reviews, and monitoring activities; lead or support responses to external audits and regulatory inquiries. Includes preparation of documentation, coordination with stakeholders across regions, and reporting to leadership.
  • Oversee insurance coverage and related risk transfer activities, aligned with organizational risk exposure across international operations.
  • Support training and risk awareness efforts, contributing to globally applicable training and reinforcing a culture of ethical conduct and accountability.
  • Partner with teams across functions and geographies to integrate risk and compliance considerations into planning, programs, and day-to-day operations.
  • Maintain oversight of risk, compliance, and remediation documentation, ensuring traceability, consistency, and audit readiness across global programs.
  • Backstop the Contracts function and perform contracts management and program management for select programs, as needed.


Qualifications

Required



  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, risk management, finance, law, public administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in risk management, compliance, contracts management, audit, or a related function.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government regulations and award requirements, including compliance obligations applicable to federally funded programs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, internal controls, risk assessment methodologies, and corporate insurance management.
  • Experience working within international or globally distributed operations, navigating cross-border risk, compliance, and coordination across regions and time zones.
  • Proven ability handling time-sensitive issues with flexibility and responsiveness, applying sound judgment and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to engage and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Other duties as assigned.


Preferred



  • Experience in an international NGO or donor-funded environment.
  • Experience with export control and other regulations specific to international operations.
  • Experience in developing and implementing staff training.
  • Experience with process improvement or automation.
