Animation Art Director (Contract in Cupertino) This is a 3-month, full-time (40 hours/week), hybrid contract role located in Cupertino, CA. Summary This role supports a fast-paced, multidisciplinary creative studio responsible for bringing visually compelling stories to life across digital services and platforms. The team blends graphic design, motion, and visual storytelling to create refined, high-impact creative experiences. This position partners closely with creative, editorial, and cross-functional teams to shape concepts, resolve ambiguity, and deliver polished visual work across platforms. Our Ideal Candidate 10+ years of experience in art direction, motion design, or animation Passion for visual storytelling with a strong foundation in animation principles and design craft Proficient in Photoshop and After Effects, with working knowledge of 3D tools and animation workflows Familiar with character animation across 2D and 3D styles, as well as styleframe development Skilled in collaborating with creative, editorial, and cross-functional partners Able to work independently while managing multiple projects across time zones Flexible and adaptable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail Confident providing clear creative direction and constructive feedback from concept through final delivery Job Description In this role, you will set creative direction and execute high-quality animation and motion design work across a variety of visual styles. You'll partner with creative and cross-functional teams to develop concepts, design styleframes, and translate abstract ideas into cohesive visual systems and assets. This includes directing character animation, contributing to storytelling and cinematography decisions, and delivering refined visuals across platforms. You will also provide thoughtful creative feedback throughout the production lifecycle, supporting the overall success of the creative studio. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in design, animation, visual arts, or equivalent practical experience Background in motion design, animation, graphic design, or related creative disciplines Experience working at a creative agency, managing vendors, or supporting an in-house brand team Additional Requirements This opportunity is located in Cupertino, CA and requires hybrid work The pay for this W-2 position is $109 per hour This position may be eligible for benefits such as PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length of service and hours requirements Mathys+Potestio values applicants of all backgrounds and experiences.
