POSITION SUMMARY

The Docket Supervisor oversees all aspects of the Chicago Docket Department. They implement and manage processes to ensure that all deadlines related to attorney matters are captured and entered into the automated docketing system. The Supervisor instructs staff on how various court procedures and rules impact deadline calculations, and coordinates the team's efforts to fulfill document retrieval, service of process, and electronic filing requests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises the workflow and performance of the Chicago office Docket team, including providing ongoing performance feedback, coaching, and participating in the annual staff performance evaluation process.
  • Participates in Docket Department orientation for new associates and laterals.
  • Utilizes available platforms to provide guidance to attorneys and Docket staff with respect to interpretation of legal statutes, court rules, and judicial rulings.
  • Assists attorneys and staff with procedural questions related to court filings, service of process, and deadline calculations.
  • Reviews electronic filings for compliance with applicable rules and requirements and submits filings in a timely manner. Completes submission of proposed orders to chambers as needed and coordinates delivery of any required courtesy copies.
  • Monitors changes in court rules and e-filing procedures and communicates these updates to attorneys and staff.
  • Reviews closed cases to ensure significant events(s) and outcome are properly noted in the centralized docketing system.
  • Assists attorneys with court admissions including Pacer and e-filing registration and maintaining ECF credentials.
  • Assists in the creation of training curriculum and materials for Docket staff as well as end users of Docket services, including e-filing training.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of litigation docketing experience required.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory role required.
  • This role is fully remote but must reside in a commutable distance to the Chicago firm office location.

COMPETENCIES

  • Advanced knowledge of court rules and procedures and ability to apply the information to complex questions and filings.
  • Able to analyze and comprehend complex legal issues and effectively communicate with attorneys and staff in a concise, accurate, and comprehensible manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to effectively communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff across all offices; must be able to present ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Advanced legal research skills and ability to search across various jurisdictions and platforms.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and complete numerous tasks in accordance with deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills and prompt responses to incoming questions and requests.
  • Prior CompuLaw experience a plus.

SALARY

Illinois applicants only: The target annual salary range for this role is currently $109,000-$142,000 based on a regular, full-time schedule. The amount of compensation offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications, market data and internal equity. Total compensation includes a comprehensive healthcare benefits package, yearly retirement contribution, and may include an annual discretionary merit bonus.
