RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Operate and maintain the facilities and equipment related to the water treatment, well facilities, pumping storage facilities, and reservoirs.
  • Operate and maintain equipment used in the water facilities. Applicants must have a valid driver's license. This job requires a Commercial Driver's License, Class C with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement and the candidate awarded the job must obtain a CDL within the require time period.
  • Perform and record inspections, tests, and data on the systems, and facilities, operations.
  • Record measurements, verify drawings, and record data for proper record keeping and reporting on the Company's facilities.
  • Prepare reports required by the Company, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, or other jurisdictional entities.
  • Collect, analyze, and record water samples for regulatory compliance and process control monitoring for proper operation of the systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and trouble shoot operational problems on all equipment and facilities.
  • Responsible for the care of the structures and grounds in and around the Company facilities.
  • Available for overtime work and available for emergency call-out duty to maintain water service continuously to the public.
  • Be physically capable of lifting up to 75 pounds.

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent, with technical school advanced study in mechanical and/or instrumentation control preferred.
  • Have the technical, academic and physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Be able to read, understand and accurately follow operating instructions both written and verbal.
  • Mathematical ability to perform calculations to determine various ratios, dosages, volumetric calculations that are required for the operation of the water treatment plant and water systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in writing with ability to accurately prepare technical reports.
  • Have demonstrated reliable performance in previous jobs and/or school.
  • Conscientious in respect for the responsibility to safeguard the public water supply.
  • Computer literate in computer database, spreadsheet and word processing capabilities and ability to operate plant processes through computer controlled equipment.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings, schematics, and manuals of water facilities and equipment.
  • Waterworks license requirements are that employee passes tests, and that license will be contingent upon experience requirements.

Must pass the following licenses and test:

  • Class A Water certification with subclasses 1,7,8,10,11 and 12 for plant operation, as issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, is required within forty-eight months of employment or promotion into the position.
  • Class C Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazmat endorsement within one-hundred eighty (180) days of employment or promotion into the position. Employee must obtain the above mentioned CDL prerequisite leaner's permit within sixty (60) days of employment or promotion into the position

RATE OF PAY: $31.99

**All Employees hired or entering the bargaining unit after May 24, 2013 will initially receive $3.00/hr less than the applicable wage classification for all positions held or worked. This reduced starting wage shall be increased by $1.00 per hour each year until the employee is paid the full wage rate.

The classification of "Maintenance Operator" is subject to the Federal Highway Administration Regulation 49 CFR Part 382 that stipulates that any employee who is required to obtain and hold a commercial driver's license is subject to the following:

  • Random drug and alcohol testing
  • Reasonable suspicion testing
  • Post accident testing involving a loss of life and/or citation for a moving violation
  • Return to duty testing
  • Bi-annual medical certification (physical examination)

The United States Department of Transportation governing Physical Qualifications and Examinations, SUBPART E Article 391.41 states a person holding a Commercial Driver's License shall not drive a commercial motor vehicle unless he/she is physically qualified to do so. He/she will be required to successfully obtain a Medical Examiner's Certificate prior to starting in the position. Federal regulations mandate that the medical certificate must be in one's possession at all times.

Successful applicant who has been awarded a job requiring a CDL who is an existing employee prior to entering the new position or any new employee entering the position must:

Within five (5) days of employment or promotion into the position, secure the necessary application form from the State Police and take the necessary knowledge test and vision screening. Failure to secure the necessary application within (5) days will be cause for successful applicant to lose the awarded job.

Existing employee will be required to return to previous position. Proof of application must be presented to Human Resources within this time frame. Possession of a CDL with Hazardous Materials endorsements is a prerequisite to be considered for transfer of existing employees into the Production Department. Failure to secure a CDL within the required time period will be cause for termination.

To the extent that PennDOT delays the issue of the learner's permit this (30) days will be extended accordingly.
