Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Dean and the Assistant Dean, Marketing and Communications at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (Katz), the Senior Associate Director of Executive and Internal Communications will lead internal and executive communications for the dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
As a key member of the Katz Marketing and Communication team, the Sr. Associate Director will collaborate closely with colleagues overseeing content strategy, digital media, and web communications to ensure alignment and consistency across all executive communications channels. This individual will lead internal and executive communications, serving as the primary writer for speeches, remarks, talking points, internal announcements, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, thought leadership pieces, partnership proposals, social media and all other related communications that support The Marjorie Joy Katz Dean, Lewis Katz School of Medicine.
The Senior Associate Director will be responsible for developing and executing an executive communications strategy that will help raise the profile of both the Lewis Katz School of Medicine and the school's dean. The role requires engagement with a broad range of stakeholders, including internal audiences, alumni, donors, and external partners. The Senior Associate Director will collaborate across departments and campuses to ensure alignment and consistency in executive communication messaging. The position also requires the ability to interpret and communicate data to inform messaging strategies and assess communication effectiveness. Creative and design skills are considered a plus, particularly for visual storytelling and presentation development.
Required Education and Experience:
*Bachelor's degree required.
*At least 5 years of direct related experience is required.
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Preferred Education:
*Master's degree preferred.
*Experience working in higher education preferred.
Essential Functions:
*Develop and implement a proactive executive and internal communications plan that will help support the Lewis Katz School of Medicine and its dean, ultimately enhancing the school's profile with key audiences comprised of both internal and external stakeholders.
*Serve as a lead writer for all of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's executive communications, including speeches, remarks, talking points, newsletters, opinion pieces, and other high-visibility communications.
*Monitor and report regularly to leadership on the effectiveness of the executive communication plan. This will include providing key data related to reporting metrics and benchmarks. Additionally, recommendations for improvement to the plan should be provided regularly based on the data collected.
*Manage and develop timely and engaging content for the dean's social media channels.
*Collaborate with the university's central Strategic Marketing and Communications division to align executive/leadership communications, media relations, and crisis communications as appropriate.
*Collaborate cross-functionally (Temple Health, Institutional Advancement, Katz Departments) and across campuses (regional campuses) to align executive communications.
*Integrate existing internal storytelling and engagement efforts into the dean's executive communications, ensuring that school wide achievements and initiatives are reflected in leadership messaging and internal updates.
*Develop and maintain an executive communications content calendar to ensure the school's leadership has developed the proper cadence for communicating with its key audiences.
*Help identify thought leadership opportunities that showcase LKSOM's impact and expertise in key areas. This could include crafting op-eds that help raise the school's profile.
*Coordinate award nominations and collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to support accreditation and institutional reporting.
*Translate complex data and performance metrics into compelling executive communication narratives that highlight the school's excellence, strategic priorities, and impact across education, research, and community engagement.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
*Serve in an on-call role as needed, especially when the dean may need to send communications for timely and sensitive issues
*In coordination with the relevant university offices, assist in managing crisis communications, including proactive planning and real-time response.
*Perform other duties as assigned.
