This is a casual position. A casual is a non-benefit eligible position that is not guaranteed any hours but can pick up open shifts. Purpose of Job This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra-and inter-departmental activities and communication. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN. Job Functions Facilitates physician orders. Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to appropriate staff. Processes admission, transfers, discharges and schedules appointments. Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area. Completes assigned clerical responsibilities. Performs support functions for management staff as required. Maintains the flow of the department by coordinating care of the patient between other departments. Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Emergency. Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education/Work Experience High school graduate or equivalent Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong communication and listening skills Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above Knowledge of basic computer functions Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations Ability to work autonomously and as a team Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above License/Certifications Current Healthcare Provider or CPR certification obtained within 90-days of hire Preferred Qualifications Completion of Health Unit Coordinator course Previous HUC experience Experience in hospital setting Knowledge of medical terminology Link to Employee Health Physical Demands
