Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Shift Manager Maintenance at our Toledo, OH HBI location. The Shift Manager Maintenance is responsible for overseeing and coordinating craft workers who perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on plant equipment. This position has direct accountability of executing planned and break-in work throughout the site on a rotating shift basis.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote Iron Units health, safety, and environment policies and procedures.

  • Ensure daily and weekly maintenance schedules are executed in an efficient manner.

  • Responsible for job preparation activities, including assignment of craftsmen to jobs, reviewing scope of work, identifying and communicating changes to plan, verifying availability of materials and tools, and confirming schedule viability.

  • Identify deviations from maintenance plan and assign tasks appropriately to correct or minimize impact.

  • Optimize the utilization of craftsman and ensure crews are executing work correctly and consistently.

  • Establish high performance standards and set goals to attain them.

  • Provide leadership to team of direct reports, so they are clear about their role purpose, level of work, and task assignments.

  • Ensures the appropriate technical resources are notified and consulted to test and evaluate equipment as appropriate..

  • Ensures accurate and complete data is captured regarding repair work, equipment data, changes to plan, and recommendations for future work.

  • Creates and maintains a proactive focus towards equipment maintenance.

  • Develops and reports assigned performance measures and utilizes information to identify and institute improvements.

  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators on a continuous basis in order to gauge efficiency and cost effectiveness within the maintenance execution process cycle of work identification, planning, scheduling, work execution, and continuous improvement. Actively provide feedback on performance of maintenance process and sub processes that impact execution.

  • Interpret sketches and drawings.

  • Plan work procedures for break in work.

  • Issue permit to work, hot work, and confined space permits where required.

  • Ensure crew timesheets are accurate and approved daily.

  • Actively review jobs in the field to identify potential issues with methods and means.

  • Administer corporate, site, and departmental policies, work procedures and systems fairly.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in business or related field. May consider equivalent experience.

  • Journeyman Millwright, Welder or Iron Worker.

  • 3-5 years of experience in heavy industrial environment preferably steel, hydrocarbon or mining environment.

  • Strong mechanical background (preferably with experience in pipe materials, specifications, fittings, seals, water piping/pumping systems, compressible fluid piping/pumping systems, welding, conveying equipment, gearing/bearings/power transmission, rigging/iron working, machining procedures, tolerances, use of power/hydraulic tools, high temperature refractory clipping and refractory.

  • Experience overseeing, leading, and coaching people.

  • Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, etc.).

  • Understanding of shop mathematics with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and precision measuring instruments.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.

  • Effectively communicate both orally and through written text.

  • Ability to read and constructively influence personnel in team processes.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.

  • Ability to read and understand O&M manuals.

  • Ability to read and understand regulatory documents including API, ASME standard.

  • Occasionally lifting up to 25lbs.

  • Mobility required. Must be able to handle stairs and long periods of work on your feet.

  • Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt and vibrations, extreme climate changes / changes in weather.

  • Ability to work at heights.

  • Willing to work shift work.

  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience; Ellipse preferred.
