Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Affairs, the McCombs School of Business's Director of Business Affairs position will lead multiple key functions related to business operations include Procurement and Payment Services, audit support of business processes, and system enhancement and processes. Working as a collaborative partner and trusted advisor to McCombs and University constituents, this position is critical to the Business Affairs' short and long-term planning as well as dissemination and implementation of policies and procedures across the School's departments.

Responsibilities

Procurement & Payments Services Management and Oversight

Provide operational oversight and management of business operations for procurement and payment services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Serve as a key member of the Financial Affairs leadership team, demonstrating strong leadership skills and strategic thinking. Lead efforts to document, modernize, streamline, and implement improvements that enhance processes, create efficiencies, and ensure consistency across McCombs. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive procedural documentation to support operational excellence.

  • Organize and manage data and files to ensure compliance with records retention policies.

  • Evaluate and optimize processes with a focus on improving customer service touchpoints and ensuring efficient, effective practices.

  • Interpret and administer University policies and procedures to effectively address the business and operational needs of the school. Utilize metrics and reporting systems to measure and evaluate the performance of the division, driving continuous improvement and supporting strategic initiatives.

Supervision

Supervise and lead the Program Office and non-academic administrative operations managers, as well as procurement and payments staff, demonstrating strong leadership and strategic oversight. Ensure all deadlines are met and that all applicable policies are consistently followed. Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Audit Support

Develop and conduct audits of business processes/functions to ensure compliance with all applicable policies and identify any unnecessary or redundantsteps/procedures. Research and inspect issues and provide recommendations for improvement.

Communication & Professional Development

Demonstrated professional and effective written and oral communication skills when addressing faculty, staff, students, and central offices. Maintain a high degree of emotional intelligence. Actively engage with University departments and central offices to foster strong working relationships and ensure alignment with McCombs and institutional goals. Participate in internal and external professional development to stay current with UT, local, state, and federal policies and regulations. Promote the development of division staff by providing training that encourages a climate of continuous improvement within the division.

Utilize and enhance use of University of Texas at Austin and/or McCombs systems and procedures.

Other

At the direction of the Senior Director and/or Senior Associate Dean, complete special projects, assignments, tasks, or duties outside of the regular job duties.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in financial-related activities and process improvement initiatives

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Previous success leading long-term projects and process-improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated excellent written, oral, and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Must be able to work both as a part of a larger team and independently in a fast-paced environment with constant deadlines

  • Strong analytical skills and expert level using Excel.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to act as a facilitator. Experience interpreting policy and implementing procedures.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business. A minimum of seven years of budgeting, financial, and reporting skills.

  • Demonstrated success in relationship management and supervision.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan on both a tactical and strategic level.

  • Experience in an accounting/budgeting function within a higher education institution or state agency.

  • Knowledge of University's electronic accounting documents and accounting policies/procedures. Knowledge of HR/payroll transactions, costing allocations, and process workflows. Demonstrated knowledge with DEFINE, FRMS, as well as commonly used business applications at the University of Texas at Austin (Workday, COGNOS, MS Power BI, Smartsheets).

Salary Range
  • 120,000 - $125,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Works in standard office conditions, in a shared office environment, with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Regular weekday hours required. Monday - Friday work hours will flex accordingly and may require evening or weekend availability.
