Application Development Technical Lead

Position Overview:

The Application Development Technical Lead is responsible for leading the technical design, development, and delivery of integration solutions for the Policy/Billing/Claims and supporting applications. This role ensures that integrations across Policy, Billing, Claim, and external systems are scalable, secure, cloud-compliant, and aligned with business and technical requirements. The Technical Lead provides hands-on expertise in APIs, Integration Frameworks, and cloud deployment and operational patterns while mentoring development teams and collaborating with architects, business analysts, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the planning, technical design, and implementation of end-to-end integrations for Guidewire and other Cloud applications.
  • Provide expert guidance on the use of various Cloud Integration Frameworks, including GOSU, REST APIs, Messaging, Event-Based Integrations, and Cloud Data Access (CDA).
  • Establish integration best practices, coding standards, and design patterns in accordance with approved Cloud architecture patterns.
  • Mentor developers and provide oversight through code reviews, design reviews, and technical governance.

Integration Development:

  • Design and build complex integrations between Guidewire Cloud (PC, BC, CC) and external systems.
  • Develop integration components using GOSU, Java, RESTful APIs, web services, Kafka/event streaming, and cloud-native tools.
  • Implement secure, performant, and fault-tolerant integration patterns in a cloud environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across environments, including production support for critical incidents.

Cloud & DevOps Enablement:

  • Collaborate with cloud engineering and DevOps teams to define CI/CD pipelines for Guidewire Cloud deployments.
  • Ensure integrations compliance with Guidewire Cloud hosting requirements, security policies, and deployment processes.
  • Support configuration of monitoring, logging, and observability tools for integration services.
  • Drive automation and continuous improvement across build, test, and deployment workflows.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with solution architects, business analysts, and functional leads to translate business needs into technical integration designs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to technical planning, backlog refinement, and estimation.
  • Provide clear communication on risks, assumptions, design decisions, and timelines to stakeholders.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure integration solutions meet performance, security, compliance, and cloud readiness criteria.
  • Creation of technical documentation, integration design specs, mapping documents, and operational guidelines.
  • Support testing activities, including unit, integration, API, performance, and end-to-end testing.
  • Develop technical deployment plans, checklists, and support the implementation demands for a well-scripted and rehearsed release to production.
  • Has a mindset of zero defects in the deliverables.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with Guidewire applications (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter).
  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing integrations in Guidewire Cloud or similar policy/billing/claim applications.
  • Strong proficiency with GOSU, Guidewire Integration Frameworks, and Guidewire REST/Messaging APIs.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Guidewire Cloud, AWS, Azure) and cloud-native integration patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with Java, REST APIs, JSON/XML, and messaging technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of insurance domain workflows, data models, and integration requirements.
  • Guidewire Ace certification in Cloud Integration Developer path (must acquire within six months of hiring, if not possessing at the time of hiring).

Preferred skills:

  • Microsoft Azure Developer/Architect Certification(s), AWS Certified Developer Certification.
  • Experience with Azure CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps tools, and Azure DevOps source control repositories like GIT
  • Experience in front-end web application development using ReactJS.
  • Comfortable with one or more ORM frameworks
  • AINS or CPCU certification(s)
