A vacancy exists for the position of General Plant Worker - Environmental. Please see the attached job description and outline for the interview.

Normal Minimum Requirements:

Basic computer skills (email, data entry, basic reporting)

Ability to use hand tools and basic equipment

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized

Physical ability to bend, stoop and lift for extended periods of time

Ability to work overtime and to travel for out-of-town work

Written Technical Test
The technical exam is a multiple choice test that evaluates the applicant's knowledge of the following categories:
*Basic Environmental Processes
*Personal Protective Equipment
*Basic General Safety Rules
*Basic Algebra
*OSHA Regulations: Employee and employer responsibilities

Applicants will be scheduled to take the exam at a designated location. Applicants must score an 85% or higher to proceed to the next evaluation.
Behavioral Based Interview The interview is a behavioral based interview incorporating our Core Competencies. In this process we believe that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and more recent behavior is a better predictor of future behavior than older behavior, and that long-standing trends are better predictors of behavior than isolated incidents. We therefore have patterned the questions during the interview to solicit behavior patterns that indicate with high predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required. This type of interview is different than those that you may have taken in the past.

Position Description:

This employee possesses the ability to learn the required duties, the required safety awareness for their skill level and the physical coordination necessary to use tools and equipment.

This employee's work may be directed by a supervisor or other employees in a higher classification. He/she may be required to perform work as an individual. The work which is performed as an individual will be in conformance with training and safe work practices. This employee will maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs, and the Company to the level of their knowledge, training, and experience.

An employee must be physically capable of performing the assigned job tasks, including but not limited to climbing and descending ladders and stairs, working in elevated situations, working in an environment typical of a coal-fired power plant, wearing protective clothing devices, responding calmly in emergency situations, operating motorized equipment and must have the ability to pass a job-related training course.

Position-Related Responsibilities (this list is not all-inclusive):

  • Assist personnel in the assigned department to complete daily tasks.

  • Must complete all applicable training requirements.

  • Perform assigned work alone or with others in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices, procedures, and safe work practices.

  • Able to take directions and have a willingness to learn.

  • An employee who is in this entry level position is expected to perform all the basic duties and less skilled operations performed by personnel in the section to which he/she is assigned; under supervision, performs all duties associated with waste and/or chemical handling; performs general housekeeping duties on the site; possesses the ability to learn the required duties for power plant operations, maintenance and shift work; possess the ability to drive vehicles; and possesses the physical coordination necessary to use tools and equipment.

  • May be required to operate equipment including, but not limited to forklifts, small trucks, and other equipment for which they have been trained.

  • Helps to manage the proper handling and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with all policies and procedures.

  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

  • Other duties assigned in laborer-type functions.

  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

  • This is a safety sensitive position.

  • Support and communicate Operational Excellence goals, objectives, vision, and values.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (this list is not all-inclusive):

  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing and demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, including speaking and describing safety/maintenance requirements.

  • Have basic understanding and comply with all safety rules and regulations.

  • Must complete all applicable training requirements.

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.

  • Ability to read, write legibly, distinguish color codes, make basic mathematical computations, read non-technical sketches and to operate job-related office machines.

  • Maintain a high level of awareness of environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs, and the Company to the level of their knowledge, training, and experience.

Pay Rate: $21.85
