Broadwind Heavy Fabrications is searching for an experienced Quality Assurance Ultrasonic Testing Technician II (UT) to join our team in Abilene, TX. The opening we have is on our Night Shift, which is 6 pm to 6 am Monday through Thursday. This shift comes with a $2/hr shift differential.

This role ensures product meets Broadwind and customer requirements or specifications throughout the production process by inspecting the quality of welded joints in metallic materials

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)

* Set up and calibrate UT equipment, accurately documenting /recording results

* Inspect product to customer specification, which includes accurately detecting discontinuities and recording inspection results

o Verify product meets customer specification

o Responsible for all aspects of NDT related records

o Maintains confidentiality of records and information

* Maintains inspection of tools and equipment

* Communicate major non-conformances effectively

* Interpret and analyze information, provide technical advice

* Document and record experience hours

* Input data into computerized information systems used in quality applications

* Train and supervise Ultrasonic Technician level I's (audit inspections, oversee calibration of equipment and weld inspections)

* Actively support all EHS and continuous improvement initiatives

* Assist with other projects as needed or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

* High school diploma/GED

* Associate's degree in quality, inspection or related field is desired

* Completion of a 40 hour accredited Ultrasound Inspection Level I and 40 Level II course

* On the job training experience equivalent to 1200 hours; must be directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in SNT-TC-1A

* Experience in a field or prior role that offers a well-rounded manufacturing and/or quality background

* Additional education in quality related courses and problem solving techniques (i.e. Statistical Process Control, good manufacturing practices and Statistical Quality Control)

* Must pass a new hire drug test and periodic randoms

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability

* Understanding of customer specifications concerning VT requirements, UT requirements, AWS, EN, SNT-TC-1A, and ISO 5817

* Comfortable reading and interpreting blue prints

* Has an understanding of lean manufacturing practices and cost-effectiveness

* Proficient at organizing resources and establishing priorities

* Understand computerized information systems used in quality applications

* Able to utilize EPOCH XT/LT, GE Phasor, and TOFD

* Ability to efficiently and independently use ruler/steel rule, weld toe gauge, bridge-cam, PWOG, and flashlight. Able to explain concepts and teach others to do essential functions of UT level I.

* Complete and gain certification by attending class for Ultrasonic Technician level I and Ultrasonic Technician level II. Pass general, practical, specific test and record hours of inspection. Pass vision acuity test and become a certified UT II by a UT III.
