Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. is seeking a Senior Manager reporting to the Director of Managed Markets Operations, Pricing and Analytics, US Managed Markets. This role offers the right candidate an exceptional opportunity to join our team during a time of dynamic growth. The Senior Manager will play a meaningful role in supporting the day to day operations of the Managed Markets Analytics group. The Senior Manager of Gross-to-Net and Managed Markets Analytics role provides leadership for key strategic business processes by managing the gross-to-net (GTN) inputs, projections, and assessments for our US operations. In addition, the Senior Manager will conduct sophisticated analyses, develop financial models, and present their findings effectively and succinctly to executive leadership. This role requires the extraction and synthesis of relevant data and timely provision of insights on the underlying factors driving forecasts and causes of variances to plan. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of the US Managed Markets landscape, analytical thinking, technical sophistication, and operational efficiency.

The individual will also play a key role in the monthly US Revenue and Long-Range Planning forecast processes via strategic analyses, recommendations and oversight of highly visible reports and relevant models supporting commercial Cystic Fibrosis medicines and, as requested, certain pipeline Vertex assets.

This role will collaborate closely with Accounting, Commercial FP&A, , Government/Public Affairs, Legal, Business Information & Commercial Operations (BICO) teams and senior Commercial leadership on a regular basis. This individual will also serve as a subject matter expert to ensure internal stakeholder understanding and anticipation of the impact of key policy changes and payer mix trends impacting the business and access to Vertex medicines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive GTN Close and Forecast processes and analyze, explain, and meaningfully summarize gross to net variances by channel and segment
  • Prepare monthly GTN forecast by leveraging excel models and conducting secondary data analytics
  • Lead monthly GTN review meetings with US Finance leadership with a focus on disseminating key variance drivers. Integrate and analyze relevant pricing and utilization data to inform trends and forecast adjustment recommendations to senior leadership in the form of standard reports or business cases.
  • In support of long-range planning and annual corporate net revenue and budget processes, provide strategic oversight and ensure accuracy of modeling assumptions, trend analyses and forecast recommendations related to payer mix and gross-to-net
  • Lead coordination with Accounting, BICO, Finance, Global Market Access, Government/Public Affairs and Managed Markets leadership to gain alignment on assumptions and inputs
  • Provide timely analyses of potential statutory and regulatory changes the Vertex's business (e.g. MFN, value-based arrangements, multiple Best Prices etc.)
  • Development of a bi-annual industry price increase report that highlights key pricing trend tracking across different segments and product classes in the biopharma industry
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on trends related to key drivers of gross-to-net through proactive analysis of various data sources, industry publications and engagement of internal/external stakeholders.
  • Responsible for analyzing and creating presentations for senior and executive management that summarize trends, forecasts and potential financial impact of new and pending state and federal policies, pricing scenarios and payer mix
  • Generate new ideas for business analytics that add value by deepening the company's understanding of key payer/channel/pricing trends and the impact on Vertex

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree (Masters' Degree in Finance, Business, Public Policy or Data Science preferred)
  • 6+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with focus on business analytics and forecasting is required.
  • Ability to mine data to identify trends
  • Exceptional in conducting complex data analytics, attention to detail and technical data skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex business questions and perform quantitative analysis to identify implications
  • Expert modeling skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly to senior leaders on multifaceted market access and pricing drivers, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to shift gears and pivot when necessary; has a flexible mind-set and willingness to adapt and learn
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in a highly matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to lead initiatives with project management skills that facilitates collaboration across multiple functional areas
  • The candidate will proactively deliver advanced analyses and insights to support current and projected commercial products performance
  • Experience with pharma and managed markets data sources (including 867 data, chargebacks, rebates, IQVIA, Symphony Health, MMIT & DRG Managed Markets)
  • Self-motivated and ability to thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working understanding of statutory government pricing methodologies (AMP, BP, 340B, NonFAMP etc.)
  • Strong understanding of the US payer and trade landscape
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and ability to proactively develop creative solutions to complex problems
  • Knowledge of SQL and other advanced analytics tools/software such as SAS (SAS Base) or any other scripting language such as Python will be a plus
  • Knowledge and/or user experience in financial systems is a plus (Oracle, Hyperion etc.)

Pay Range:

$136,000 - $204,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
