Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Assist in the interpretation and analysis of various geologic data including boring logs, geophysical wireline logs, geophysical surveys, and more;
  • Build geologic, hydrogeologic, and contaminant plume models using 3D geostatistical modeling software (primarily Leapfrog and Earth Volumetric Studio - EVS);
  • Develop groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport models using MODFLOW series tools;
  • Perform statistical analyses of environmental data using a variety of software;
  • Write and implement Python scripts to automate and customize workflows for a variety of tasks;
  • Assist in the management and analysis of geologic, hydrogeologic, and contaminant data;
  • Creation, use, and interpretation of defensible computational models and effective visualizations to be used as supporting tools to communicate complex problems to internal and external clients.
  • Data compilation and preparation of technical reports, including figures (GIS, Illustrator, etc.) and tables; and
  • Assistance in the development of proposals and other business development activities.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, earth science, environmental science, environmental studies, environmental engineering, or relevant majors. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same (M.S. or Ph.D.). (preferred)
  • Geologist in Training (GIT) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, if applicable. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency with groundwater modeling software (e.g., MODFLOW, MODPATH, MT3DMS) and graphical user interfaces such as GMS and Groundwater Vistas. (required)
  • Experience with quantitative statistical methods and data visualization. (required)
  • Experience with scientific programming languages, such as Python, MATLAB, R. (required)
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing 3D geostatistical modeling software (Leapfrog and EVS) and ability to learn new software platforms. (preferred)
  • Experience with graphic generation software (e.g., Illustrator) (preferred)
  • Strong data management and organization skills, and experience manipulating large datasets. (preferred)
  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing geospatial software (e.g., ArcGIS, Surfer, etc.) (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $68,640 /year / Maximum: $74,220/year or Minimum: $28.54/hour / Maximum: $33.00/hour (Santa Barbara, Ventura, or Costa Mesa, CA)
