THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Transportation Division is seeking a skilled Automotive Mechanic. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform specialized upfitting, new fleet processing, maintenance, and repair of vehicles as well as preventative maintenance on diesel trucks ranging from 7k - 26k pounds. You will complete specialized upfitting for K-9 kennels, prisoner cages, gun racks, lighting, TAC boxes, fire brackets, decals, and slide boxes. This role requires thorough automotive knowledge and the ability to complete most maintenance and repair actions independently. In addition, you will perform annual state inspections and emissions, maintain records, and respond to requests for road service maintenance and repair.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
