Job Summary:

The Senior Survey Research Unit Professional provides high-level support to CEPEG's Survey Research Unit (SRU). The person in this role supports all aspects of new and ongoing SRU projects that require survey data collection, data management and data systems management. This position oversees a large longitudinal participant panel, assures panel maintenance utilizing RedCAP, programs survey instruments in Qualtrics, utilizes a CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interview) system for telephone interviewing, oversees a team of student interviewers, and creates and maintains strict data management protocols while implementing multi-modal data collection (telephone, web and postal mail) from a variety of populations throughout Colorado.

Key Responsibilities:

Examples of Duties Performed:

Preparation for Field Operations: 40%

  • Participate in strategic planning meetings with project investigators

  • Collaborate with investigators regarding data-collection methodologies, survey design, language, internal logic, continuity with previous survey iterations and other survey research best practices

  • Program survey instruments in Qualtrics and oversee testing; adapt for on-line, paper and phone completion

  • Program rules within the Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) software system to facilitate participant release to phone center queue; manage call center activities

  • Create and maintain inter-operability between CATI projects and Qualtrics surveys

  • Assist with the recruitment process and supervision of call center and fulfillment staff (temporary hires and students - number depends on size of survey projects)

  • Oversee development of and revisions to training materials for telephone interviewers to implement best practices in survey data collection efforts

  • Train call center and fulfillment staff in survey best practices and operational processes

Survey Implementation: 40%

  • Manage calling rotation schedule for SRU to achieve outreach protocol

  • Maintain highest level of professionalism among call center staff by actively participating in data collection as an interviewer, implementing quality assurance standards, monitoring interviews for quality and SRU best-practices, responding to participant inquiries, and conducting interview training updates and retraining as necessary

  • Provide on-site oversight, troubleshooting and problem-solving for telephone interviewers

  • Draft and implement survey roll-out mapping for release of participants to text, phone, e-mail, and/or postal mail contact

  • Develop, implement and oversee protocols to assure timely update of data systems throughout the data collection process

  • Monitor operational aspects of survey administration and completion rates; develop and generate progress reports and provide regular status updates including calculating response rates, and ad hoc reports to managers and project investigators

  • Develop and oversee incentives management and fulfillment protocols; coordinate with administration to fulfil paper recruitment and incentives

  • Assist with cleaning final datasets in preparation for the analytic team, document cleaning steps, anomalies and other data concerns and ensure accurate alignment between the survey codebook and final dataset

  • Identify and implement quality improvement projects to streamline SRU operations, increase efficiencies and improve data quality

Hardware/Software Operations: 20%

  • Monitor permissions, oversee hardware and software upgrades, and design and maintaining appropriate architectural approaches to ensure data consistency and database longevity

  • Optimize, and maintain data management systems (REDCap database or similar) to organize and monitor longitudinal contact-panels including eligibility verifications, current contact information, survey, focus group and other data collection events and incentive tracking

  • Trouble-shoot existing software, investigate upgrades to identify useful functionalities and devise creative solutions where possible

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical science, behavioral health, or public health related field

  • 2+ years' experience coordinating a participant-based survey research and/or working in a public health setting and/or working in a clinical setting

  • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health or related field

  • 3+ years' experience coordinating a survey, participant-based research project (for example, clinical trials) or working in a clinical setting

  • Experience using a computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) system

  • Experience using data management tools such as REDCap

  • Experience designing surveys in Qualtrics or similar

  • Experience with texting software such as Twilio or similar

  • Experience using urls, tiny urls (Bit.ly) and QR codes

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of program evaluation

  • Experience with and knowledge of tools and best practices to protect participant privacy and confidentiality

  • Demonstrated data management and data wrangling skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including mail-merge functions

  • Experience writing code in SAS or similar

  • Experience with relational databases (RedCAP, MS Access or similar)

  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to utilize project management tools to monitor multiple timelines and concurrently manage multiple project components; prioritize and execute tasks under pressure

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills; ability to tailor written, visual and verbal presentations to specific audiences

  • Able to identify opportunities for improvement and implement process improvements

  • Able to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals; able to recognize individual strengths within the team and partner effectively

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $55,367
