DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of Trauma Program Manager, the Quality Improvement HC Specialist 3 is responsible for reviewing and documenting trauma patient demographic and clinical information and entering into the Trauma Registry database. Involves use of: ICD-10 coding of diagnosis and Abbreviated Injury Scale. Identifies basic performance improvement issues.

Applies physiologic, anatomic, and trauma clinical theory to abstract and analyze each trauma case. Develops and presents basic trauma educational courses for IMU/floor nurses caring for trauma patients. Directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned. Promotes compliance and support for policies.

This position is mostly computer work and not direct patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.

  • Proven ability to apply physiologic, anatomic, and trauma clinical theory to abstract and analyze each trauma case.

  • Experience and proven success in QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to work within a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • BLS/BART certification.

  • AIS coding course.

  • Trauma Registry course.

  • Proficiency in ICD-10 coding.

  • RN experience in the acute care of the critical trauma multi system injured patient.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
