Position Description:

The University of Iowa's College of Dentistry is conducting a search for a full-time clinical or tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Periodontics.

Major responsibilities include:





  • Preparing and delivering course lectures and seminars for dental residents/students;
  • Clinical supervision of Periodontal Residents and predoctoral dental students during Periodontal procedures;
  • Inter-disciplinary collaboration;
  • Research and scholarly activity;
  • Presenting at national/international meetings and publishing scholarly articles or peer-reviewed publications;
  • Mentoring residents/dental students' research;
  • Participation in dental service plan (faculty practice);
  • Engaging in service activities at the departmental, collegiate, university, local, and national committees; and
  • Maintaining current knowledge of periodontics by taking continuing education courses.




Tenure-track applicants are also expected to obtain extramural research funding and mentor/supervise post-doctoral scholars in research projects.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement:


  • D.D.S./D.M.D. or equivalent;
  • By time of appointment, completion of a CODA/CDAC-accredited advanced training program in Periodontics;


Required Qualifications:


  • By time of appointment, licensed in the State of Iowa or eligible for Faculty Permit issued by the Iowa Dental Board;
  • Board Certification/Eligibility in Periodontics;
  • Experience with hypothesis-driven research and/or scholarly activity.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Eligibility to obtain a Moderate Sedation Permit issued by the Iowa Dental Board;
  • PhD or equivalent;
  • Clinical practice experience via private practice or academic environments;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new research programs; and
  • Record of success in acquiring extramural grant support.
