Job Overview

The Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) Nurse serves as the clinical resource and role model for nursing practice and standards in skin, wound, and ostomy care. Provides guidance and education to nursing staff on risk assessments, healing potential, and product selection. Assists management in leading and evaluating nursing practices related to skin, wound, and ostomy care. Develops and maintains quality improvement initiatives and implements program changes as needed. Ensures a safe patient care environment by overseeing case reviews and fostering interdisciplinary WOC nursing practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of the WOC program and related education materials within the Division of Nursing.
  • Develops and implements policies, protocols, and guidelines for pediatric skin, wound, ostomy, and continence care.
  • Evaluates WOC products and implements new ones in alignment with system policies.
  • Participates in outreach with community organizations supporting patients.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve or maintain system-wide wound care goals through environmental scanning and literature review.
  • Serves as the WOCN advisor to staff and leaders, ensuring care is family-centered and responsive to psychosocial, developmental, and educational needs.
  • Partners with Nursing Administration to adopt current neonatal and pediatric skin care practices, maintaining education, training, and compliance with WOC standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degrees
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Area of Study
    • Graduate of an accredited Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nursing Education Program within 12 months of hire
  • Experience
    • Minimum Experience Required:Three (3) years clinical experience including at least two (2) years pediatric or WOC experience
  • Equivalency
    • Not Applicable
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Basic Life Support
    • Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse
    • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
    • Registered Nurse
  • Additional Requirements
    • Variety of certifications required and some after time of hire: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) in specific departments.

      BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
      Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification (CWOCN) within 18 months of hire.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $40.26 to $60.39
