About This Role

The Animal Sciences & Industry Department houses the largest undergraduate degree program at Kansas State University in combination with a robust extension program across most primary disciplines and species/products in animal sciences. We are seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track position (50% Teaching & 50% Extension). The position will be at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor (commensurate with experience) and located in Manhattan, KS. The successful individual will contribute primarily to the department's land-grant missions associated with undergraduate teaching and extension programming. Expertise in swine nutrition and management is desired. The successful individual is expected to collaborate in scholarly activities with members of the K-State Applied Swine Nutrition Team. Teaching will focus on undergraduate Swine Science and Swine Nutrition, both on-campus and online, and other determined courses based on expertise and departmental need. Mentorship of undergraduate students and service in student clubs and activities are required. The successful individual is expected to develop an innovative and impactful extension program addressing issues facing the Kansas and U.S. swine industry.

Position Description and Responsibilities: The successful individual will:
* Teach ASI 535 Swine Science and ASI 679 Swine Nutrition and mentor undergraduate students
* Develop and maintain an impactful and innovative swine extension and applied research program.
* Communicate with and engage clientele, extension agents, faculty, and support personnel
* Develop impactful information transfer approaches, such as in-person programs, factsheets, newsletters, videos, internet-based communications, and radio/TV
* Conduct applied research and advise graduate students in collaboration with peer faculty to support extension information generation
* Foster relationships with producers, industry and governmental organizations, and leaders in the Kansas and U.S. swine industry
* Engage in scholarly activity relevant to our land-grant mission
* Support the overall mission of the Department
* Able to work effectively as part of a team and maintain positive professional relationships


About Us

The K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) serves students, livestock producers and the animal and food industries through teaching, research and education. The Dept. of ASI prepares students for careers in the animal and food industries.

The curriculum includes the study of nutrition, reproduction, genetics, behavior, meat science and food science with production, management, and agribusiness skills. Students are given sound professional and scientific skills, a broad education and experience for contributing to our communities across the nation and abroad. Students receive excellent advisement and mentorship from faculty and professional staff and participate in extracurricular activities to develop skills to become industry leaders.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

* Ph.D. degree (at time of employment) with emphasis in applied swine activities
* Practical knowledge and experience with modern Kansas and US swine production
* Ability to develop an impactful extension and applied research program relevant to swine nutrition and management
* Enthusiasm and commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship
* Proficiency in the interpretation and translation of scientific/technical information into educational resources for extension and teaching programs
* Commitment to the University's land-grant mission

Preferred Qualifications:

* In-depth knowledge and practical experience with swine production.
* Teaching activity and effectiveness consistent with experience level
* Ability to create, communicate, and conduct effective educational programs
* Evidence of being a successful team member and leader
