Summer Internship Program

Our 10-week program is designed to increase future employment potential for prospects while providing a valuable resource to the business. This Summer Internship will appeal to proactive and self-motivated college juniors/seniors with a genuine desire to contribute to the design and product experiences around the smart-home, security, and energy industries. During the internship, candidates will work on real projects and have real responsibilities. NRG aims to help candidates build strengths, gain skills that can be transferred to any workplace, and stand out from the crowd.

Ideal Candidate

This Intern role within the organization is anIndustrial Design Internbased in Lehi, UT.

Industrial DesignIntern Responsibilities include:



  • Support all phases of the design process across multiple product categories.
  • Participate in user observation, interviews, testing and help synthesize information into insights.
  • Create storyboards to help communicate products that blend digital, physical, and service experiences.
  • Positively contribute todesign reviews and other team-wide design efforts.
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to maintain design intent.
  • Explore consistent application of Vivint design language system.



Required Skills



  • Degree discipline: Industrial Design or Product Design
  • Must have completed second year of college with a portfolio of Product Design or Industrial Design work that showcases skillset
  • Knowledge of human-centered design principles.


  • Hands on! Ability to create quick mockups in multiple mediums for feedback from design team and users.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling and rendering software (SolidWorks and Keyshot).
  • Fluency in 2D design tools (e.g. Procreate, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma)
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Self-motivated to complete week over week actions and deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Degree discipline: Industrial Design or Product Design
  • Must have completed second year of college with a portfolio of Product Design or Industrial Design work that showcases skillset
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

Working Conditions



  • Open office environment
  • Primary Location of Employment: Lehi, Utah
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones
  • Workshop includes 3D printers, desktop milling machines, basic woodworking power tools, a paint booth, and other various model making tools
  • Self-funded relocation as needed
  • This is a full-time 40 hr/wk in office position
