Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans, drawings, and specifications for compliance with the Florida Building Code (FBC), local ordinances, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Evaluate plans across relevant disciplines such as Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Energy, and Accessibility.
  • Confirm that proposed materials, systems, and assemblies comply with approved listing standards and Florida Product Approvals.
  • Communicate identified deficiencies and required corrections to architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and property owners.
  • Provide clear code references and guidance to help applicants achieve compliance.
  • Coordinate plan reviews with other departments or agencies (fire, zoning, utilities, environmental, health, etc.).
  • Respond to questions from the public and industry professionals regarding building code requirements.
  • Interpret and apply the Florida Building Code, including updates and amendments.
  • Maintain documentation of plan review notes, approvals, corrections, and correspondence.
  • Track compliance with Florida Statute requirements, including timelines for review.
  • Stay current with FBC updates, legislative changes, and industry standards.
  • Uphold ethical standards and ensure consistent, impartial application of codes.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years' experience as a Plan Reviewer in the State of Florida.
  • Valid Florida Plan Review License: "RPX " License or "PX" (Standard Plan Review and one commercial plan review MEP license) required.
  • Valid Florida driver's license; ability to travel within the jurisdiction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

  • Proficiency with inspection software and digital reporting systems.
