Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pharmacy Technician - Brooklyn.

In this role, the successful candidate The Pharmacy Technician supports the Pharmacy Department's distribution process by the way of dispensing medical prescriptions, receiving and storing incoming supplies, as well as verifying stock in order to maintain inventory records.

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the safe handling of pharmaceutical waste.Knowledgeable in the storage, dispensing and safe disposal of the medication deemed hazardous.
• Supports all departmental distribution processes (delivery-routine, and stats, cassette filling).
• Fills unit dose cassettes under direction of a licensed pharmacist
• Packages medications using automated technologies.
• Assists in inventory control (check expiration dates, maintains drug stocks, places orders with drug wholesaler and other supplies).
• Performs stock related task (unpack order, check inventories).
• Delivers medication to patient care areas.
• Refills automated dispensing cabinets
• Conducts medication station reviews (expiration date checks).
• Adheres to all department policies related for the above assignments or any other aspect of service.
• Sorts out anesthesia controlled substance returns; reviews anesthesia controlled substance records. [Applies to designated technicians only.]
• Prepares reports of anesthesia reconciliation of controlled substances. [Applies to designated technicians only.]
• Under supervision of licensed RPh following all USP 797 regulations, assembles, prepares IV medications; labels medications uses technology provided to ensure the safest product possible.
• Orders medications and supplies on an as needed basis from the wholesaler and Materials Services.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
In this role, the successful candidate Under the direct personal supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for satisfactorily completing the responsibilities listed below.
Job Responsibilities:
Completes annual competency assessments.
Completes unit inspection and Expiration Tracking Report assignments.
Appropriately stores and secures, and routinely reviews stock for expired medications
Places and expedites orders; verifies receipts; receives shipments as needed. Verifies accurate drug receiving and documents on the corresponding invoice or packing slip. Records receiving in Epic and supplier website as per department guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of State and Federal laws related to the Medical Centers policy of handling controlled substances.
Demonstrates proficiency with applicable Pharmacy technology,
Demonstrates proficiency with medication procurement process, stocking and deliveries to units in a timely manner, utilizing approved delivery methods when appropriate (i.e pneumatic tube)
Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking stock; anticipates medication demands based on supply level and removes outdated medications.
Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic technique and IV room procedures.
Prepares and accurately documents sterile product compounding under the supervision of a Pharmacist. Understands and complies with intravenous compounding room procedures including Sterile Medication Compounding and Hazardous Medication Handling.
Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains equipment and work areas according to procedures, rules, and regulations.
Demonstrates proficiency when repacking needed doses.
Demonstrates proficiency with Hospital Information System, reviews patient information in the medical record system and prints labels when necessary.
Demonstrates proficiency with unit dose drug distribution.
Maintains Pharmacy files for patient medication profiles and pulls these charts for the Pharmacists as needed.
Participates in the training of newly hired Pharmacy Technicians based on departmental training guidelines.
Answers telephone with courtesy and promptness, stating their name and department. Triages phone calls as appropriate, facilitates medication order workflow, and troubleshoots interdepartmental medication order inquiries.
Interacts with health care providers and patients, answers questions and requests, and refers inquiries to a Pharmacist where applicable.
Checks current inventory to determine drug and products to be ordered. Places orders with drug wholesaler, materials management, or specialty pharmacy supplier. Receives medication and supplies promptly and stores in appropriate areas accurately document receiving of drugs and supplies, alerts Pharmacy manager of problems or discrepancies. Understands and complies with the requirements of the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
Maintenance of pharmacy technician certification and registration as prescribed by the New York State Education Department.
Maintenance and timely submission of appropriate continuing education hours to support ongoing registration
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma. Must be a registered certified pharmacy technician through New York State..

Required Licenses: Cert Pharmacy Technician

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician Program preferred.
2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
PTCB. Fluent in Spanish.
