Department OverviewThe Astro Value Stream is responsible for the development of best in class P25 networking infrastructure solutions. There are development teams based in Krakow and in Schaumburg. The product management team is located in Schaumburg. The product manager will be responsible for strategy, roadmap, and feature definition within the Astro VS including interfacing with engineering teams, marketing, working with sales on forecasting, and with finance on profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities.

The product manager analyzes market and competitive conditions and lays out a product vision that is differentiated and delivers unique value based on customer demands. The role of the product manager spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides cross-functional leadership-bridging gaps within the company between different functions, especially between development, sales and marketing, and support.

The product manager is the person responsible for defining the 'why', 'what,' and 'when' of the product that the development team will build. They are the director of their product -- which means they direct cross-functional teams from a product's conception through to its launch

Product management responsibilities include:

As a manager of the System Management suite with Astro Infrastructure, this person will be responsible for a team that manages the PDM responsibilities. The Manager will need to drive their team to complete tasks on time and with in the project budget. They will need to create a collaborative culture with other Value Streams include Consoles, RF Sites, Unified Communications, all the teams in the Service organization and Sales.

The System Management portfolio consists of UNC/UNCr, UEM/UEMr, PM, CM, Affiliation Display, Reporting, ATR, Zone Watch/Call Monitoring, Radio Control Manager, Genesis, Crystal Reports, Astro Upgrade Service (AUS), SDM/MC Edge, and the Service Delivery Efficiency (SDE) program.

Product Strategy

The product manager is responsible for setting a product vision and strategy. Their job is to clearly articulate the business value to the product team so they understand the intent behind the new product or product release. They own the strategy behind the product along with its roadmap and must work with development to define, prioritize and build what matters.

  • Create and manage backlog, roadmap, and vision

  • Identify customer needs and market requirements

  • Evaluate competitive intelligence

  • Define financial goals

  • Create business plans for new systems and for continuous lifecycle systems

  • Manage strategic partners and third party suppliers

Product Releases

PdMs must plan for what their teams will deliver and when they will deliver it. The product manager owns the release aspect of the product. Release responsibilities include managing epics and dependencies in and across releases, product and support teams; and managing releases with phases and milestones.

  • Define market offer and structure for new systems and for continuous lifecycle systems

  • Make products orderable, deliverable, and loveable

  • Define and support implementation of training, support and deployment requirements

  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality

  • Coordinate overall release project and schedule

Product Visioning

  • Collecting, curating, and promoting the most relevant ideas into epics. Defining which ideas should be promoted to epics to achieve key objectives for the product line and business. Soliciting feedback and requests from customers and field teams and ensuring this is seamlessly integrated into the product planning and development processes.

  • Gather customer and sales feedback and voice of customer

  • Evaluate success of launched initiatives and adjust strategy as necessary

Epic Definition

Responsibility for articulating the 'what' and working with development to determine the 'when.'

Go-to-market Support

Responsible for making product decisions and often becoming the lead resource for the rest of the organization when deep product expertise is required. This includes supporting the organizations that help bring the product to market and working directly with customers including marketing, sales, training and support services.

  • Facilitate global sales and channel training

  • Assist pre-sales with custom project requests

  • Define and ensure implementation of GTM assets including demo environments, training materials, and presentations

  • Demonstrate new pre-release epics

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with cloud services (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform)

  • Familiarity with on-premises programming techniques (Virtual Machines, Containers,...)

  • Firm understanding of software design & user interaction

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are a necessity

  • Polished presentation skills for internal and external audiences

  • Proactive, enthusiastic attitude toward challenging problems

  • Capable of quickly evaluating and prioritizing new projects alongside customer feedback

  • Strong ability to take complex user requirements and distill them into a format that can be understood by developers as well as non-technical staff

  • Ability to research and analyze product requirements from various stakeholders

  • Ability to understand market trends, financial data, and customer needs and assess competitive intelligence data.

  • Build consensus among stakeholders

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a diverse team spread across multiple continents in a fast-moving environment

  • Ability to multi-task among various assignments

  • Working knowledge of Motorola or competitive P25 Land Mobile Radio systems.

  • MBA or other graduate degree (desired)

Target Base Salary Range: $98,100 - $196,200 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
