The Role: Make an Impact

The Logistics Sustainability Intern will identify and assess opportunities to decarbonize logistics, creating a roadmap that enables significant decarbonization of logistics by 2030. The role will include technology readiness assessment, cost-benefit analysis, and market analysis. Additionally, the Logistics Sustainability Intern will collaborate with key members from both the Sustainability and Logistics team to align duties with the company's goals and values. The Logistics Sustainability Intern will report to the Sustainability Manager.

From your EXPERTISE to ours

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assess techno-economic feasibility of available emission-reduction technologies (EV, rail, etc.).
  • Analyze our logistics network and identify which routes/lanes are the most readily decarbonized.
  • Recommend an action plan that would enable significant decarbonization of Lactalis USA logistics by 2030.
  • Document available/applicable grants and incentives that can be leveraged for this work in areas where Lactalis USA operates (local, state, federal level).
  • Evaluate available resources, conferences, organizations, and working groups for relevance to our needs.
  • Report on the state of logistics decarbonization in the US and prepare a benchmarking inventory against key competitors in the Consumer Package Goods (CPG) space in the US.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Occasional travel may be required, <25%.
  • To fulfill these responsibilities, tools such as a computer will be provided.

From your STORY to ours

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required. Candidates currently enrolled in graduate studies are strongly preferred.
  • A major related to logistics, supply chain, engineering, operations, or sustainability is required.
  • Requires professional competence for independent work, meeting with various internal and external stakeholders, and effectively communicating learning outcomes at various points during the internship.
  • Interest or experience is preferred in at least one of the following areas:
  • Decarbonizing logistics networks currently dependent on heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Techno-economic assessments, especially related to energy transitions.
  • Greenhouse gas accounting, especially related to transport/logistics.
  • Basic data management skills are essential; experience working with lane-level logistics data is a plus.
  • Understanding of greenhouse gas accounting is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of supply chain logistics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of technologies that reduce emissions from heavy-duty vehicles is an asset.
  • Analyze data and situations rigorously to identify causes/effects, select appropriate information, and make effective decisions.
  • Communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) by transmitting and receiving information clearly, considering the audience's point of view, using tact and diplomacy, and adjusting style, tone, and level of detail to engage all stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify, use, understand, and manage emotions in positive ways, empathize with others, overcome challenges, and defuse conflict (Emotional Intelligence).
  • Intellectual curiosity; receptive to new and different ideas or opinions, and open to learning from the business environment.
  • Ability to determine priorities and allocate time and resources effectively to ensure accomplishment of specific objectives with method and rigor (Planning & Organizing).
  • Ability to audit strategies in terms of energy and environment, and analyze, develop, and present the associated results and action plans.
  • Coordination and redaction of R&D strategy, matching business needs, R&D resources, and the external state of the art.
  • Ability to understand market research data and utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to gain consumer insights, support decision-making, and build defense/offensive strategies for the short, medium, and long-term.
  • Ability to show clear, creative, and imaginative ideas about what should happen or be done in the future (Future-oriented).
