Position Summary:
The Center for the Humanities in Extended
Reality (CHXR) at the Albert Dorman Honors College at New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT) seeks candidates to fill a Research Associate position.
Candidates are expected to support all aspects of a research project,
including developing an online digital platform, coordinating undergraduate
research assistants, and providing organizational, writing, and
project-management support for ongoing digital humanities initiatives
Essential Functions:
-This position provides digital humanities
research support as well as technical development and consulting for the
Center for the Humanities in Extended Reality. As a research associate, this
candidate will demonstrate strong writing ability, excellent knowledge of
various methods and techniques necessary in digital scholarship, and a
willingness to explore and develop new skills as needed.
-Responsibilities
include:
-Coordinating the workflows of research assistants.
-Supporting grant
development and manuscript preparation.
-Organizing project documentation and
research processes.
-Facilitating collaboration across administrative,
faculty, and community partners.
-Expected areas may include working knowledge
of Unity, immersive experience design (XR), databases and non-relational
object storage solutions, web-development technologies and frameworks
(JavaScript, CSS, HTML5) and/or machine learning techniques and AI. Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Candidates must have demonstrated experience
working in the digital humanities.
-Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
-Demonstrated strong written and oral
presentation skills are required.
-Experience with digital scholarship projects
and the ability to communicate complex ideas in an understandable way to a
broad variety of stakeholders.
-Willingness and demonstrated ability to learn
new skills and technologies beyond existing areas of knowledge, including new
software applications and/or programming languages.
-Experience successfully working in a
collaborative team on interdisciplinary digital scholarship projects.
-Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and
analytical capacities.
-At the university's discretion, the education
and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can
demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination
of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success
in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Advanced degree preferred.
-Data visualization, digital humanities, or
database experience is preferred.
-A demonstrated willingness to, or experience
with leading undergraduate research projects.
-Grant-writing experience.
-A record of academic publications or the
equivalent.
-Experience working with honors students and
incorporating undergraduates into the candidate's own research area is
preferred.
-Project management experience.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated starting annual salary for this position is $43,562.40 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
