Summary:

Reporting to the First VP-Business Banking, the VP Business Banking is responsible for soliciting and expanding high-quality business relationships within the bank's market area. This role focuses on developing new deposit and credit relationships with businesses generating revenues under $5 million and credit needs of $1 million or less. The VP will prospect and network within an assigned territory, leveraging a consultative sales approach to attract new clients and deepen existing relationships. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of business loan relationships, identifying and developing credit, deposit, and cash management opportunities, and collaborating with internal partners to deliver comprehensive banking solutions. The ideal candidate will possess advanced credit skills, superior knowledge of banking products, and exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities. Active participation in community events and mentoring team members are also key components of this role. This role is based at our PeoplesBank headquarters in Holyoke, MA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prospect and network within assigned territory to develop new business relationships through a consultative approach.
  • Identify and secure credit, deposit, and cash management opportunities for businesses with revenues under $5M and credit needs up to $1M.
  • Respond promptly to leads and collaborate with internal partners to deliver comprehensive banking solutions.
  • Manage a portfolio of business loan relationships, ensuring proper risk ratings, compliance, and proactive loss prevention.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies and calling plans; maintain accurate prospect lists.
  • Prepare and oversee business lending needs, underwriting processes, and documentation compliance.
  • Mentor and support team members to strengthen overall talent within the Business Banking Group.
  • Partner with Retail Banking Centers to enhance business development skills and facilitate referral programs.
  • Provide management with reports, analytics, and strategic insights; stay informed on competitive products and rates.
  • Represent the Bank at community and civic events to build relationships and promote brand presence.
  • Complete all compliance training and adhere to Bank policies and regulatory standards.
  • Other similar duties as requested.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four to six years demonstrated progressive experience in a similar/equivalent role in business/commercial banking sales.

Skills Required:

  • Advanced credit analysis skills to evaluate, structure, and manage commercial lending relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of banking products, industry rates, and market trends to develop credit and deposit solutions and provide insights to senior management.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities for complex financial scenarios.
  • Superior customer service, communication, and presentation skills to manage high-value client relationships.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented with advanced interpersonal skills; able to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to organize, interpret, and execute assignments with precision.

Computer/Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications and laptop technology
