Overview

TISTA is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to implement, deploy, and maintain ML and GenAI solutions in secure cloud environments, building robust analytic pipelines and automation that improve fraud detection and payment integrity for the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). The role emphasizes reliability, observability, and operational performance of AI services in production.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, deploy, and maintain ML and GenAI models in secure cloud environments (e.g., AWS/Azure), ensuring compliance and operational integrity.
  • Build analytic pipelines and automate modeldriven workflows across data ingestion, training, evaluation, and inference.
  • Ensure monitoring & reliability through observability, performance tuning, and incident response for deployed AI solutions.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to integrate models into production applications with CI/CD and governance controls aligned to federal AI competencies and skillsbased guidance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years building and operating ML systems, including model deployment, pipelines, and production monitoring.
  • Handson with Python (e.g., scikitlearn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), containers, and orchestration tools; experience with CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
  • Familiarity with secure cloud services (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government) and controls suitable for federal programs.
  • Preferred Experience supporting federal benefits analytics and payment integrity initiatives; understanding of AI roles/competencies and ethical use per OPM guidance.
  • Languages/Libraries Python, scikitlearn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
  • Pipelines/Orchestration Airflow, Kubeflow, MLflow, SageMaker, Azure ML.
  • Cloud & DevOps AWS/Azure, Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps.
  • Observability Prometheus/Grafana, CloudWatch/Application Insights.
Core Competencies:
  • MLOps Excellence Pipelines, versioning, reproducibility, monitoring, and rollback strategies.
  • Secure Cloud Engineering Identity, access, encryption, and audit logging within federal cloud environments.
  • Reliability & Performance SLOs, model drift detection, performance optimization, and incident management.
  • Collaboration Partner effectively with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to translate models into dependable services.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • Preferred Certifications in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or UX/UI design.

Clearance:

  • The ability to pass a Tier 2/Modest Background Investigation.
