We are seeking a highly skilled UX Designer with an active Secret clearance to support the design and optimization of user experiences for secure, mission-critical applications. The ideal candidate excels at translating complex requirements into intuitive interfaces and thrives in a collaborative environment that includes designers, engineers, product managers, and government stakeholders.

As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), staying focused on the assigned tasks, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design user-centered interfaces for secure web and software applications used by government or defense-related customers
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, heuristic evaluations, and stakeholder interviews within a cleared environment
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and design documentation to communicate design intent
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and security, to ensure solutions are feasible, accessible, and aligned with program requirements
  • Apply industry best practices for usability, accessibility (WCAG 2.1+), and responsive design
  • Iterate on designs based on qualitative and quantitative research insights
  • Contribute to and help maintain a design system supporting classified and unclassified products
  • Ensure all design deliverables comply with security, handling, and data-protection guidelines

Required Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher)
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • 3-5+ years of professional UX design experience
  • Demonstrated experience producing UX artifacts (journey maps, personas, wireframes, prototypes, research summaries)
  • Proficiency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure)
  • Strong visual design, interaction design, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with Agile or hybrid development teams
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal, DoD, or defense contractor programs
  • Familiarity with secure development environments and constraints on classified systems
  • Experience designing complex enterprise, data-heavy, or mission-critical applications
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS or front-end frameworks (for collaboration purposes)
  • Experience contributing to or managing design systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or related field-or equivalent practical experience
