| Position Summary |
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 3 YEARS.
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the
UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a Research Specialist Position. The successful candidate will participate in research activities in the Choby Laboratory. The objective of this position is to serve as a Research Specialist in the Choby Lab. The lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and heteroresistance in Gram-negative bacteria. We require personnel to perform molecular biology and bacterial genetics techniques to manipulate the genome of clinical isolates, and perform assays that measure the frequency of populations in a bacterial culture that is resistant to a particular antibiotic. These manipulations and measurements are used to elucidate mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and phenotypic heterogeneity. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |

Microbiology laboratory research experience
Experience in bacterial genetics
Evidence of ability to disseminate research findings via peer-reviewed publications and/or external presentations
Experience in murine models of bacterial infection |
