Academic Director

CTD Academic Summer Camp at Northwestern University

Academic Directors (ADs) serve as primary point of contact for all instructional staff, students and parents for their specific program: Grades 6-8 or Grades 9-12. The AD collaborates with the Program Coordinator to ensure that the academic component of each program meets expectations and serves as the principal support for the team of the Assistant Academic Director, Instructors, and Teaching Assistants.

Employment Dates and Compensation

  • Full-time, on-campus work Friday, June 12 - Friday, August 7, 2026 with occasionally Sundays required; final administrative tasks completed remotely August 10 - 14, 2026[KW3] [EZ4] .
  • Stipend: $10,000 gross (before taxes)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field and minimum of 5 years teaching experience required; Master's degree and Type 75 certification preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, and supervisory experience in a fast-paced academic setting.
  • Curriculum development, conflict management, staff mentoring, customer service, staff evaluation, and experience with web-based learning management systems highly desired.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver at least 40 lbs.
  • Ability to traverse distances of at least one mile with or without accommodation.

General Responsibilities

  • Learn, uphold, and implement CTD policies and procedures, including the CTD Honor Code.
  • Serve as head of academic affairs, responding to staff and family concerns in a timely manner.
  • Support instructional staff by encouraging collaboration with the Assistant AD, Instructors and
    Teaching Assistants.
  • Gather information through classroom observations. Provide timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback to academic staff regarding documentation of student learning and other instructional activities.
  • Communicate with families regarding academic concerns.
  • Appropriately address and document staff and student conduct issues.
  • Inform administrative staff of student or staff concerns as appropriate.
  • Respond to student concerns and needs in a calm, positive, and supportive manner.
  • Train instructional staff on student and program evaluation systems and CTD policy/procedures.
  • Generate, organize, and distribute instructional support and training documents.
  • Track confidential student health information and communicate with Program Coordinators, Learning and Behavior Support Specialist, and instructional staff as appropriate.
  • Assume program-related responsibilities as reasonably requested by CTD directors and administrators.
