Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The National Center for Science Literacy, Education, and Technology ( NCSLET) is a division within the Museum's Education Department that produces educational products, primarily for distribution via the Museum's Digital Platform. Key products include OLogy (amnh.org/ology), OLogy iPad app, Seminars on Science (learn.amnh.org), and interactive curriculum tools distributed through Resources for Learning (https://www.amnh.org/learn-teach/resources-for-learning). The Interactive Web Developer will be the primary technical resource for the Center, with responsibility for maintaining, building, and supporting the products listed above, and others.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Production and development of new interactive media in HTML5 and/or JavaScript for distribution on the Museum's multiple digital platforms.
  • Technical Management of the group's implementation of the Content Management System.
  • Oversee, maintain, and support digital products with multi-language support, accessibility standards, and analytics.


The expected salary range for the Interactive Web Developer is $85,000/annual - $105,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed coursework in computer science and/or game design or natural science.
  • Proficiency in website production and project management: HTML, JavaScript libraries, CSS, SASS, accessibility, responsive design.
  • Strong interest in science and education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Follow-through, creative and strategic thinking, willingness to work collaboratively, and attention to detail.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with coursework in computer science and/or game design or natural science.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems.
  • Game design experience.
  • Working knowledge of WebGL, Unity and After Effects.
  • Science data visualization skills.


Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
