Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technical Specialist - Weld Inspector, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment Contract at AEDC in Arnold AFB, TN. The Technical Specialist will be working as a member of the Engineering Solutions branch responsible for supporting the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts. The Engineering Solutions branch performs cutting edge technology development work in support of the National Defense Strategy.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will support the Chemical & Metallurgical Services group, ensuring the successful implementation of the BNH welding program. The Weld Inspector is responsible for ensuring the welding qualification program, welding production, and welding documentation are in compliance with applicable codes and AEDC procedures. The Weld Inspector will perform inspections for, and communicate with, personnel across the base in multiple facilities and disciplines. Additionally, the Weld Inspector will work closely with the Materials Engineer and the NDT department to identify gaps and/or improvements related to welding processes and procedures.

Job Duties:

    Maintain the welding program to comply with ASME, AWS, and other fabrication codes including welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Provide testing services, administer, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications, Procedure Qualification Records, and Welder Performance Qualifications in accordance with appropriate Codes
  • Specify welding parameters to production personnel, including procedure assignments, inspection and test requirements
  • Review design drawings for welding, special process, and inspection requirements and recommend changes as needed.
  • Review welding procedure specifications, building and welding plans, equipment calibration, and welding materials; develop WPSs
  • Assist production personnel in resolving problems with machining, welding, heat treatment, etc
  • Monitor the welding process, conduct inspections, and identify and supervise repairs
  • Monitor and inspect field welds for conformance with codes
  • Verify safety requirements compliance
  • Review and approve welding procedures
  • Verify welder and welding procedure qualification compliance
  • Review submittals from subcontractors/vendors for accuracy and compliance
  • Support the use of common work processes and procedures within assigned function across the TOS contract
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification OR Bachelor's degree in welding, material science, welding engineering plus a minimum of three years of progressive and relevant welding experience
  • Current U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in a facility engaged in the fabrication and installation of parts produced by welding, machining, and heat treatment
  • Broad Knowledge of and experience with industry Codes, including ASME Boiler, Pressure Vessel, and Piping Codes, NBIC, and AWS Structural Welding Codes; and standards, such as ASTM, AMS, and ASME material specifications
  • Experience interpreting drawings, blueprints, and engineering documents
  • NDE Level II certified per ASNT-TC-1A in the following methods: MT, PT, VT, UT, and RT
  • Experience using XRF technology to positivity identify material
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and strong leader
  • Effective written and verbal communication
