MaineHealth is seeking an inaugural Sr. Director for the new Orthopedic Surgery Center (OSC) located in greater Portland, ME.

The Sr. Director for the new OSC will provide focused leadership for all aspects of ambulatory orthopedic surgical services and operations. This position provides leadership for the overall strategic direction, business development, performance improvement, physician collaboration, market influence, market share growth, patient experience and operations.This position, which reports to the Vice President of Emerging Business Lines, will engage in close collaboration with the Orthopedic Physician Advisory Council under the framework of the triad model. The Sr. Director will be an integral member of the OSC preoperational team, providing leadership in care team recruitment, design and construction initiatives, guiding workflow development, managing revenue cycle processes, and supporting various other pre-operational activities to ensure a successful launch.

The Sr. Director will have an aligned and collaborative relationship with MaineHealth system partners, including system Service Lines, the MaineHealth Medical Group and Shared Services Departments.

The new MaineHealth Orthopedic Surgery Center will be a key component of the upcoming Orthopedic Campus opening in the greater Portland, ME area. This state-of-the-art facility will feature four advanced operating rooms and two specialized procedure rooms, all dedicated exclusively to orthopedic care and procedures. Patients can expect innovative technology and a patient-centered environment designed to deliver exceptional outcomes and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

An advanced degree in health or business administration (e.g., MBA), nursing (e.g., MSN) or a combination of education and/or equivalent experience specifically relevant to the primary accountabilities of the position required

Experience:

*Five years of progressive experience in healthcare with at least 3 years of leadership/ management or the equivalent and experience with change management, and clinical care delivery.

*Prior experience managing an ambulatory surgery center is required.

*Demonstrated supervisory, management and collaboration skills, with physicians, nurses and the broader multidisciplinary team.

*Proven experience successfully implementing and leading change and building relationships and trust across the continuum in a complex health care environment.

*Experience with AAAHC and/or JCAHO Accreditation.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

    • Leadership
      • Develops and fosters effective collaboration between subsidiaries, LHSs; shared services, medical staff leadership, and other affiliated services (inside and outside the health system) to ensure an integrated approach to providing services and fulfilling the health system's goals and objectives
      • Works with senior leaders to create a culture that encourages quality, accountability, excellence and superior results in patient, employee and physician engagement
      • Supports and drives integration within the health system around service, clinical programs and shared services to achieve system-wide standards, efficiency and effectiveness
    • Business Operations
      • Directs and supervises the development and implementation of a comprehensive growth strategy for the OSC
      • Develops operating and capital budgets, and monitors revenues/expenses for scope of operations.
      • Collaborates with marketing on the focus and implementation of annual communication and marketing plan.
      • Develops and maintains written operational policies and procedures for the OSC and oversees enforcement of these policies and procedures with appropriate stakeholders.
      • Oversee compliance with government agencies and regulations, as applicable to the surgery center.
      • Manage contracts and service agreements associated with the OSC.
      • Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization.
      • Monitors and reports on operational and quality metrics and trends.
      • between management and owners, and that strategies are consistent with owners' objectives, and maintains minutes of such meetings.
      • Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment within the OSC.
    • *Personnel Administration
      • Promotes a culture that reflects the organization's values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity.
      • Manages personnel and their performance to ensure that assigned duties are completed in a timely fashion consistent with practice standards.
      • Holds routine meetings with OSC staff outlining goals, priorities, and performance of the facility.
      • Manage exempt and non-exempt employees in accordance with the facility policies utilizing sound principles of practice and fairness.
      • Review employee performance, ensuring that reviews occur as scheduled or at least annually for each employee.
      • Develop employee productivity analysis and ensure efficiency of staff levels through increases or reductions in the work force as necessitated by changes in surgical case volume.
      • Implements a program of job-based orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation for all employees.
      • Provide educational opportunities for professional staff development.
    • Quality Improvement

    In conjunction with the Medical Director and nurse leadership:

    • Develops annual customer service and quality goals.
    • Works with clinicians to evaluate new technology, expansion of services, and review of quality data for performance improvement.
    • Research, reviews, and implements best practices for improved operating performance and increased efficiency.
    • Develop, evaluate, and promote implementation of a continuous quality improvement program.
    • Administer the infection control program and medical staff review of the quality improvement program.
    • Develop statistical indicators to use in evaluating the overall operations and quality of care provided.
