Environmental Humanities and Media Technologies Northwestern University in Qatar invites applications for a full-time open rank faculty position in Environmental Humanities with a preferred focus on Media Technologies, to be appointed in the Liberal Arts Program, and with the possibility of a joint appointment in the Communication Program. We seek candidates with an active research agenda that takes a critical and interdisciplinary approach to the study of the environment, human interaction, and the interface with media technologies. Particularly appropriate would be scholars who investigate the role of technology in climate change; the environmental impact of media elements or of digital data creation, storage, and transmission; the connections between environmental sustainability and infrastructure; and/or perspectives on humans and the environment from fields such as anthropology, the arts, media studies, cultural studies, human geography, history, literature, politics, philosophy, religion, sociology, and science and technology studies. In addition to a demonstrated research record commensurate with rank, or highly promising research trajectory for emerging candidates with a recent PhD, applicants should show competence in working with globally diverse communities, a strong commitment to excellence in inclusive teaching and mentoring, and dedication to institutional service and shared governance. Teaching expections include two courses per semester, which may include core disciplinary courses, elective courses that speak to their research field, as well as contribution to NU-Qs broader curricular needs. This latter could include the required Ways of Knowing course, the Doha Seminar honors course, or courses qualifying for our universitys growing number of interdisciplinary minors, such as Middle East Studies, Media and Politics, and Africana Studies. There are also opportunities to collaborate with NU-Qs Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, Artificial Intelligence and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum. NU-Q is a community of evidence-based storytellers in the Global South. We are a globally embedded institution, being one of three campuses of Northwestern University (Chicago, Doha, Evanston) and one of several partner universities in the Qatar Foundations Education City in Doha, Qatar.
