Clinical Education Specialist for Sterile Processing

Full-time, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional flexibility to work second or third shift as needed

The primary location will be St. Joseph, with travel required to Niles and Watervliet approximately once per week.

Job Summary

Assists in development and delivery of various training programs. Plans and develops course or training program content, curriculum, pamphlets, and presentations for appropriate area. Evaluates the effectiveness of training and makes modifications to course materials and maintains orientation/in-service records, course completions, and attendance logs as appropriate.

Essential Functions
  • Analyzes the educational needs and requirements of the internship program. Plans and develops appropriate educational methodology, lesson plans, and policies to achieve desired results for both employees, students, and interns.
  • May provide interns with appropriate and adequate clinical supervision, both direct and indirect in accordance withdocumented student competencies. Evaluates interns' behavioral traits and abilities twice each quarter.
  • Identifies and analyzes the training and education needs of all professional, technical, and support employees within assigned department or entity. Reviews records to identify problems and areas of concern that training programs could improve.
  • Plans and develops educational program, content, curriculum, policies and presentations. Structures educational sessions, incorporating appropriate teaching methodologies to meet identified needs and course objectives.
  • May conduct department/unit orientation and mandatory training on such issues as safety and hazardous materials ensuring that each employee receives information specific to the employee's position. Secures speakers, coordinates schedules, and promotes educational events.
  • Plans, develops, and implements evaluative tools to measure the effectiveness of training and provides feedback to managers regarding orientation or educational process of employees.
  • Participates in studies and projects to improve course or curriculum content, interaction of trainees and patients, and drafts reports of findings. Provides an educational perspective as a member of committees, task forces or projects.
  • May monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient care through updates and revisions to policies asneeded. Identifies problems and pursues training opportunities to improve patient care.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant clinical experience
  • 1 year of relevant supervisory experience
  • BLS, Basic Life Support, AHA, American Heart Association or American Red Cross upon hire

Preferred

  • Master's degree
