Part-Time Deputy Court Clerk
The City of Red Bank has one (1) immediate opening for a Part-Time Deputy Court Clerk.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The right candidate will achieve by:
- Demonstrating the ability to follow directions.
- Demonstrating an ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrating fundamental knowledge of principles and practices in compliance with state regulations.
Supervision Received: The employee is under the direct supervision of the Court Clerk.
Supervision Exercised: Performs duties of Lieutenant in the temporary absence of Lieutenant.
Salary and Benefits:
(G3) $21.48 hourly, 20-24 hours per week

- Not have been convicted of, or plead guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor, or controlled substances.
- Not have been released or discharged under anything other than an honorable discharge from any armed forces of the United States.
After having met the above requirements, candidates must successfully complete the following:
- Oral interview board composed of a combination of departmental members and outside guests.
- A comprehensive background check, including but not limited to criminal, financial, and personal history.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are not incidental to the primary functions. - Assists in administering criminal proceedings and docketing.
- Files records.
- Processes deferrals, jail sentences, probations, and pre-sentence matters.
- Assists in the coordination of court matters with defendants, defense counsel, City Prosecutor, police department, jail, alcohol agencies, and other levels of the criminal justice administration system.
- Receipts, accounts for, and deposits monies for bail, fines, forfeitures, and other court penalties and fees.
- Assists in the preparation of court dockets and files; checks with jails for special hearings.
- Receives, logs, and indexes incoming filings, citations, and complaints, and enters data into the computer.
- Responds to counter, telephone, and written inquiries.
- Initiates related paperwork as needed by defendants to facilitate their response to a citation or complaint.
- Performs initial filing of all papers, dockets, index cards, case files, and dispositions and case-related correspondence.
- Processes Failure to Pay, Failure to Comply, and Failure to Appear notices.
- Constructs new case filings, filing and retrieving documents as necessary.
- Prepares files for court use; processes timely notices to defendants of arraignments, trials, and hearings.
- Responds to requests for criminal records.
- Responds to requests from the Municipal Judge, City Prosecutor, Police Department, and others for assistance and information; processes discovery activity required from the office.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a high school, including or supplemented by courses in general office practices and typing, or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, accounting, data processing.
- One (1) year of increasingly responsible related experience, or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Proficiency in operating listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly; ability to communicate effectively vernally and in wright; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Firefighting and emergency operations must be performed during all kinds of weather conditions. The employee can be exposed to extreme heat, smoke, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and falling materials. Employees must perform duties requiring bending, crouching, stooping, crawling, and climbing in buildings and close quarters that may be filled with smoke.
