Primary Function

Provide support and testing services to the Engineering team during the innovation, development and evaluation of electronic controls for new and existing products.

Responsibilities
  • Gain a thorough working knowledge of UL, IEC, and other standards relevant to electronic controls (UL 60730, IEC 61000 EMC Test series, etc.)
  • Review project instructions and other documentation to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical challenges and possible solutions.
  • Conduct certification tests under direction of test agency representative.
  • Safely operate and service all lab equipment.
  • Observe and record results relevant to testing and evaluation.
  • Maintain safe practices and participate in upkeep of lab spaces.
  • Develop skills required to perform the aforementioned tasks (light fabrication, soldering, standards interpretation, electrical safety, MS Office skills, etc.
  • Build prototypes and test equipment to specifications.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to other lab techs as needed.

Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in related field from an ABET accredited university (Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Physics.)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a test lab environment.
  • Experience with electronics lab equipment, particularly: DMM, oscilloscope, LCR, function generator, soldering equipment, transient generators, ESD gun, RF test equipment, etc.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of all UL, CSA, and IEC tests, the proper way to conduct those tests, and the reason why the tests are necessary.
  • Has a working knowledge of basic algebraic functions.
  • Has the ability to budget time and set deadlines for him/herself.
  • Can act with limited supervision, perform troubleshooting, and develop possible solutions before escalating a problem.
Preferred Qualifications

- 5 years of experience in an electronics test lab environment (i.e. possess a working knowledge of all regulatory safety and EMC tests (CSA, UL, IEC), the proper way to conduct those tests, and the reason why the tests are necessary.)

- Experience in maintenance of calibrated equipment, particularly CMMS administration, scheduling downtime, reviewing calibration certificates, etc.

- Experience in automation of long-duration tests (using DAQ's, PLC's, Python coding, etc.)

- Training in electrical safety

- Understanding of and experience working under ISO-style quality management systems, particularly ISO17025.

- Experience in 6S methodology

Education
Associate Degree in Engineering or Related Field
High School Diploma or GED
