Position Summary The Oncology Clinical Pharmacist Manager is responsible for the oversight and implementation of remote clinical pharmacy services within The US Oncology Network (The Network) practices as part of the ClinReview program. The ClinReview program works collaboratively with The Network practice(s), leadership, and McKesson teams to implement processes that ensure the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive, cost-effective pharmacy services that meet regulatory, and quality obligations. The Manager will deliver value by supervising and developing ClinReview pharmacist team members, as well as designing, implementing, and monitoring clinical programs with minimal oversight (70%), and functions as a ClinReview pharmacist (up to 30%).
Key Responsibilities
- In collaboration with program and practice leadership, develops and implements strategies and policies to optimize clinical efficacy, appropriate dosing, and therapeutic interchange, reimbursement, and other drug use initiatives.
- Collaborate with The Network practices to implement P&T recommendations and improvements for patient safety.
- Implement mutually agreed upon therapeutic and supportive care medication use changes within the patient care setting.
- Identify best practices within the electronic health record for medication review and suggestions for enhancements
- Leads the development and evaluation of clinical practice metrics and quality improvement projects.
- Report on clinical interventions and updates on key drug initiatives at practice P&T or applicable leadership meetings
- Manage and develop oncology clinical pharmacists in the ClinReview program, including goal development, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development planning activities.
- Provide clinical pharmacist coverage for ClinReview practices during periods of short-term and long-term leave, ensuring continuity of high-quality pharmacy services.
- Execute strategic building and maintenance of team culture in a remote environment.
Education/Training:
- This position requires a doctorate Degree in Pharmacy
- Post-doctorate pharmacy residency
- Active Pharmacist License required, flexibility in gaining additional state licenses as required
- Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist a plus
Professional and Supervisory Experience:
- 9+ years of practice in oncology pharmacy required
- 1+ year supervisory experience required
Critical Skills:
- Experience as oncology clinical pharmacist guiding sound drug utilization strategies
- Experience developing and expanding clinical pharmacy services, executing practice-based research
- Maintain and contribute to reliable, resilient, transparent, collaborative, and innovative team norms.
- Strong ability to form and articulate persuasive arguments based on analysis and consensus recommendations
- Ability to analyze clinical data, to multitask in an environment of competing and changing priorities, to translate clinical information to business-related challenges, and to work with a multidisciplinary team within a matrix organization.
- Experience leading multi-stakeholder projects, including client or customer-facing projects with success.
- Experience preparing, supporting, and leading change within pharmacy practice and clinical workflows.
- Strong working knowledge of community oncology practices and oncology clinical pharmacy practice
- Expert in business applications and communications through MS Office, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, video conferencing platforms (WebEx/ MS Teams).
- Advanced presentation and delivery skills
- Success managing ongoing relationships, including primarily by remote communications (phone, email, web conference).
- Aptitude to obtain and maintain additional state pharmacy licenses as required to support coverage needs across multiple practice locations.
Additional Knowledge & Skills:
- Practice development experience with community oncology practices highly preferred
- Understanding of managed care trends, including step edits, prior authorization workflow and value-based reimbursement models a plus
- Success managing ongoing relationships in a remote work environment
- Strong orientation and commitment to external and internal customer service
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, strong critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize /follow-up
Travel:
- Periodic travel required to client sites and internal meetings
