Salary Range: $42,000-$45,000

Position Summary
Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University is seeking a full-time Technical Assistant to support the Art Department Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM (MJCC) and Painting Studios. Management, organizational, and record-keeping skills are required. The Technical Assistant will be expected to work in coordination with the Curriculum Coordinators, Department Chairs, Program Heads, Senior Facility Manager, and faculty. All applicants must be willing and able to work with other disciplines and Technical Assistants as needed. The successful candidate must be able to stay current with technology, tools, and techniques appropriate to the needs of both studios and learn new skills, as necessary.
Required Education and Experience
*Bachelor's degree required.
*At least 2 years of directly related experience required.
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Experience
*Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
*Experience in training/mentoring students.
*Experience with Apple Mac OS and Windows OS.
Required Skills and Abilities
*Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
*Willingness to be self-motivated and work independently
*Demonstrated ability with studio equipment and knowledge.
*General understanding of professional studio standards and how to perform basic studio maintenance.
*General mechanical aptitude and ability to assess and solve problems.
*A basic knowledge of electrical systems and ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment.
*Proficient in the setup and use of 2D and 3D input and output devices - 3D printers and laser cutters/engravers.
*Experience in painting, jewelry and /or metalsmithing.
*Knowledge and experience with Rapid Prototyping, LASER cutting, LASER welding, vacuum forming, 3D printers, Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) milling and electroforming.
Additional Information

Studio Supervision
*Hire, train, and supervise student workers
*Create Studio staff schedule and approve timecards
*Train Graduate Assistants to perform the functions of their assistantships
*Create Graduate Assistant's schedule
*Maintain office hours in order to assist students with technical matters outside of class
*Schedule and supervise weekly and/or end of the semester studio clean-ups
*Perform health and safety orientations for all students enrolled in Program OR Department courses
*Generate studio policy, documented in a technical and safety handbook which is updated regularly
*Collaborate with other departments and program areas
Studio space management
*Maintain records and inventories of all studio tools, equipment, and supplies, including schedules and records of equipment maintenance and replacement
*Purchasing of materials, tools, and equipment
*Liaison with Physical Plant for maintenance and repair of studio
*Organization of storage facilities
*Work with Curriculum Coordinator, Program Head, Senior Facility Manager, and Department Chair to address any specialized requests for equipment/materials for existing curriculum and the evolution and plans for new curriculum
*Maintain records of general supplies budget expenditures
*Work with Program Head, Senior Facility Manager, and Department Chair to plan long term budget needs for capital expenditures and improvements
*Work and coordinate with other Program Heads and Technical Assistants, as required
*Stay current with technology, tools, and techniques appropriate to the needs of the studio and learn new skills, as necessary
Studio Health and Safety management
*Monitor proper health and safety procedures related to all equipment
*Work with emergency management and life safety partners at the University to ensure program-level adherence to relevant policies and procedures
*Responsible for inventory, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials
*Inventory, maintain, and order safety equipment
*Oversee safe studio practices and Standard Operating Procedures
*Ensure Compliance with Environmental Health and Radiation Safety regulations and policies in relevant facilities
