KCUR 89.3, Kansas City's NPR affiliate, is seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Business Support Specialist to serve as the welcoming face of our organization. This position is responsible for front desk operations, providing exceptional customer service to visitors and callers, and supporting a variety of administrative and financial functions that keep our station running smoothly. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, and thrives in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Job Description

  • Serve as one of KCUR/Classical KC's primary public-facing representatives at the front desk, creating a welcoming and professional environment for the community and employees.
  • Welcome and host all visitors to the station, ensuring a positive and organized experience for guests, including coordination with talk show staff, producers, reporters, and development personnel.
  • Act as the first point of contact for the station, responding promptly and courteously to inquiries received in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Manage front desk logistics and support office operations through parking coordination, building matters, mail handling, and monitoring common areas to ensure cleanliness and readiness.
  • Maintain accurate signate and contact lists, monitor inventory levels, and order supplies to support daily operations.
  • Support sales operations by entering orders, preparing reports, and assisting with related administrative tasks.
  • Assist with financial and administrative duties, including data entry, document preparation, and recordkeeping.
  • Compile and consolidate data for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reporting requirements.
  • Train and support front desk volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer & Events Coordinator.
  • Assist the Digital Operations team with assembling and distributing email newsletters as needed.
  • Participate in committee work and contribute to other duties that support the station's mission and operations.
Shift

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), benefit eligible staff position.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in front desk, administrative/financial support, or customer service role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Documents, as well as comfortable with learning new software systems for scheduling, reporting, and communications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests, staff, and external partners.
  • Familiarity with basic financial and data reporting processes, including handling invoices, tracking expenses, and compiling reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$17.05 - $22.00 per hour commensurate with education, experience and internal equity.
