Summary

The Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities that align with Novanta's strategic goals and growth targets. This role focuses on acquiring and expanding new accounts that drive profitable growth. The Senior Business Development Manager will bring deep industry expertise in Motion Solutions' core target segments and will also support strategic projects at existing accounts managed by colleagues. This role is focused on expanding Novanta's market share and driving revenue growth by cultivating partnerships with leading OEMs, technology innovators, and targeted product development organizations.The Senior Business Development Manager will also support the Key Account Management team by providing targeted technical and industry training to enable scalable success. Additionally, the role will contribute strategic insights to guide the product development roadmap.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assess prospects based on market position, funding/ownership structure, and technological capabilities to determine alignment with Novanta's goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers in target accounts; consistently secure meetings and in-person engagements.
  • Explore new business opportunities, develop tailored solutions, negotiate terms, and close deals. Leverage internal resources (e.g., engineering) when necessary, while maintaining a high degree of autonomy.
  • Lead introductory and technical meetings to present Novanta's capabilities and uncover customer challenges that can be addressed through Novanta's solutions.
  • Provide technical and market insights to inform and shape the product development roadmap.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

  • Deep technical and market understanding of one or more target OEM applications, including MedTech, Life Science Research, and/or Diagnostic Instrumentation.
  • Proven track record of identifying and developing opportunities that have generated at least $5M in new business revenue.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-value opportunities in parallel, leading to successful business outcomes.
  • Strong background in motion control and automation technologies, including stages, actuators, motors, linear bearings, and ballscrews.
  • Skilled in delivering compelling presentations and proposals to individuals, small groups, and larger audiences.
  • Strategic and creative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective collaborator within cross-functional teams, while also capable of working independently.
  • Comfortable and confident engaging with stakeholders across all seniority levels-internally at Novanta and externally with customers, from individual contributors to C-suite executives

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires extensive travel within the assigned region.
  • Expect to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight stays.
  • Travel can include international locations as opportunities arise
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel on short notice and adapt to changing schedules.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The base pay for this position ranges from $106,400 to $146,300 per year depending on the geographic region.
  • Dependent on the position offered, annual bonuses and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of the compensation package.
