Digital Platform and Engagement Operation Manager
Job Summary
The Manager of Digital Platform and Engagement Operations is responsible for the daily operations, governance, and continuous development of UCSF Health's internal communications platform. This role blends content operations, contributor enablement, analytics, and digital infrastructure to create a user-friendly, intuitive, and high-impact experience for employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Platform Operations & Program Oversight: Oversees daily operations for UCSF Health's internal communications platform via publishing workflows, targeting, and review/approval of content submissions. Manages contributor onboarding, training, permissions, site governance, platform image libraries, graphics, and brand assets aligned to the department's editorial strategy.
- Editorial Strategy & Content Execution: Coordinates editorial scheduling and timing in collaboration with the Director.
- Intranet Growth & Platform Development: Support ongoing content migration and contributor enablement following phase one launch. Builds a connected sites strategy with the Director. Serves as the primary point of contact with the platform vendor on features, troubleshooting, and roadmap.
- Audience Engagement & Analytics: Manages tactical audience list setup, maintenance, and new request fulfillment within the platform (not overall audience strategy, which is owned elsewhere). Tracks content engagement, contributor activity, and adoption. Develops actionable analytics dashboards in collaboration with the Director and communications colleagues to ensure insights are actionable and context-driven.
- Stakeholder & Contributor Engagement: Partners with internal stakeholders and content owners across the health system to align contributor practices and governance standards. Supports content creators with training, onboarding, and adoption of new tools.
- Governance & Platform Evolution: Updates governance protocols as the platform evolves. Supports emerging needs, including new feature adoption, enhancements, and integrations with connected sites. Manages refresh/archiving workflows: act on automatic expiration triggers, engage content owners, and uphold standards for updates/removal. Carries out additional duties as assigned to support platform maturity.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the *salary range will be guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement. The annual salary range for this position is $113,900- $216,700, with a target entry point starting at $153,720. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, digital media, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of experience managing digital platforms or employee communications tools in a complex organization.
- Strong knowledge of internal communications platforms (e.g., Firstup, Poppulo, SharePoint, CMS).
- Experience in onboarding, training, and managing contributor networks and governance protocols.
- Familiarity with user experience principles, accessibility standards, and content governance.
- Ability to tactically manage platform audiences, targeting, and content lists.
- Skilled at interpreting engagement data and collaborating with peers to apply insights.
- Strong attention to detail, operations mindset, and user-centered thinking.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and manage both daily operations and longer-term development needs.
- The ability to work onsite in our San Francisco office at least one day a week or more as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting the launch or scaling of internal communication platforms in large organizations.
- Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and user-centered design best practices.
- Familiarity with content archiving/refresh cycles and governance processes.
- Experience serving as a primary vendor point of contact for a platform or tool.
- Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders across functions and levels.
