Job Summary The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately one year. Please note this is part-time, 18-20 hours per week. Must be able to travel to all UCSF sites in the Bay Area.

You'll help advance UCSF's mission of Advancing Health Worldwide by supporting employees in diverse environments including offices, labs, clinics, research, and material handling settings. Under the direction of the Program Manager/Principal Ergonomist, you will:
- Conduct onsite and virtual ergonomics evaluations, consultations, and trainings.
- Develop and deliver training, outreach, and resources to stakeholders and departments, including train-the-trainer programs.
- Provide accurate, clear, and actionable documentation and recommendations to reduce risk and improve comfort and efficiency.
- Contribute to program development, process improvement, and compliance with ergonomics and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across UCSF to foster a culture of health, safety and inclusion.
We're looking for a motivated, effective, and team-oriented ergonomics professional with excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills - someone who can balance evidence-based, technical expertise with genuine care for people's health, safety, and well-being. Successful candidates will have at least three years of related experience working with ergonomics and demonstrate UCSF's PRIDE values and a passion for enhancing the quality of work life.

Department Description UCSF is committed to protecting its workforce and the environment, as we advance health worldwide. The UCSF Office of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) provides expertise and resources to help the UCSF community maintain a safe workplace, ensure safe work practices, and preserve the environment. EH&S is responsible for the safety of all faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors. EH&S also supports regulatory compliance for all campus workplace safety and environmental compliance issues including: biosafety, chemical safety, environmental protection, ergonomics, facilities safety, fire and life safety, industrial hygiene, radiation safety, laser safety, DEA controlled substance compliance, hazardous materials, spill response, food facility compliance and safety, safety training, personal protective equipment (PPE), asbestos, hazardous waste management, etc. The department also provides substantial safety and environmental program support to the UCSF Health System and several UCSF affiliates.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., ergonomics, human factors, exercise science, physical or occupational therapy, kinesiology, psychology, engineering) or a related discipline with a strong emphasis in physical ergonomics/occupational biomechanics; or equivalent experience/training. Thorough knowledge of the ergonomics field, including related laws and regulations, and a general understanding of all Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) disciplines. Comprehensive knowledge and skill in interpreting and applying local, state, and federal ergonomics and safety regulations, standards, and guidelines. Proven ability to effectively use ergonomics methodologies and tools to analyze risk, identify countermeasures, and provide actionable recommendations. Demonstrated experience performing complex computer-based and hands-on ergonomics evaluations and analyses, and producing timely, professional reports for diverse work tasks and environments. Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage, and complete work and projects within established time and budget constraints. Sound judgment and discretion in decision-making, with a record of resourcefulness and professional integrity. Ability to perform independently and consistently, completing assignments accurately and on schedule with minimal supervision. Proven team collaboration skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, sensitivity, tact, and efficiency with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong command of written English, including business, technical, and report writing-ensuring proper formatting, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, database management, communications, and web browsing. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective, engaging presentations and training/instructional materials. Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, with a record of effectively communicating and maintaining positive relationships with individuals of varying backgrounds, abilities, and limitations. Ability to organize and conduct meetings and handle sensitive communications with professionalism and discretion. Capability to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required for ergonomics and safety evaluations. Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field (e.g., ergonomics, human factors, exercise science, physical or occupational therapy, kinesiology, public health, psychology, engineering) or a related discipline with a strong emphasis in physical ergonomics/occupational biomechanics; or equivalent experience/training. Three (3) or more years of experience performing ergonomics evaluations and trainings for individuals, groups, and equipment. Experience conducting ergonomics evaluations in laboratory, research, clinical, manual material handling, and other diverse environments. Experience performing virtual ergonomics evaluations using online or remote assessment tools and techniques. Experience applying engineering, biomechanics, and systems approaches to ergonomics analysis and program development. Experience contributing to ergonomics projects in collaborative settings under the supervision or guidance of a program manager or senior ergonomist. Experience developing and/or implementing train-the-trainer ergonomics programs to build internal capacity and knowledge. Knowledge of human factors, usability, and accessibility principles and their application to workplace design and evaluation. Proficiency with technical software relevant to ergonomics, project management, and communications. Strong interest and enthusiasm for applying ergonomics and human factors principles in a diverse research, clinical, and educational environment.
